Donkey Kong is my all time favorite and I have restored probably 4 different versions. I was hoping my next DK project would be a DK2, but tonight I found this ... so naturally it moves right to the front of the line.

I am pretty stoked about this one ... the wife doesn't seem to understand or appreciate the historical significance, but whatever.

Soon, all of my Donkey Kong guts will be removed from the pretty blue cabinet and inserted into this ...

Yes, that's a doorbell on the front! Perhaps someone was living in there at one point ...

wow, thats weird i found the same cab today as well. pretty much the same as yours completely gutted.

congratz

I know I'm a bit behind, but I here lots of talk about red DKs, and I am not quite sure what the deal is behind them that makes them more rare. Any one care to explain?

The red ones were the first off the assembly lines (low serial numbers) they also came as converted Radar Scopes. After a short while Nintendo decided to go with all blues and thats how 95% of them came.

I checked the serial number tag on the back (thankfully, it was still intact) and this one was definitely a DK with the TKG series serial number ... I'm thrilled.

Can't wait to get it fixed up and in the house ...

That is a strange coincidence! Congrats on yours ...

Fortunately for me, I have a near perfect blue DK already, so all I need to do is some cabinet repair, apply sideart, and transplant all the parts from blue to red ... easy peasy!

I am sure I can find someone to take the near perfect blue DK cabinet off my hands when I'm finished. :)

@MilitiaMan - nice dude congrats
Radarscope was the first game to show up in that cabinet Radarscope was an asstastic game (it totally bombed). Nintendo scrambled trying to figure out what in the hell they were going to do. Luckily for them DK was getting ready for release so they sent out kits to convert from RS to DK. DK saved their asses. The remaininf red cabs were converted to DK in the factory. then came the blue cabs.

Ok, thats makes sense, thanks for the response. In that case, awesome pickup Militiaman! The cab is gonna look sweet when it's totally fixed up.

Wow ... that does look almost exactly like mine, but yours doesn't have a doorbell on the front. :p

Why don't you just paint a blue DK red?

Well ... it HAS crossed my mind.

But at the end of the day I would still know that it had originally been a "blue" and that I had forged it to look like a "red". It wouldn't be the same .... to me.

Most of this hobby for me is the thrill of the hunt and I have been looking for one of these for a long time ...

Well the good news is that 10639 is a lower serial number than you might be thinking. That is a TKG2 serial number. TKG2's were the red Radarscope games that were converted at the factory to DK. They started at serial number 10000. TKG3's came after TKG2's and were the first dedicated (didn't start life as Radarscope) red DK's from the factory. They started down at serial numbers around 1000.

I would love to see a picture of the serial number tag. I am tracking these games and would like to add all the info.
