I have been collecting since 1994 and have somehow managed to keep all of my working machines and projects in the house and/or garage, but it has finally happened ...

... storage unit!

The good news ... now I have some room and I can stop avoiding Craigslist like the plague.

Happy Hunting!

The bad news... We all started out with ONE machine. :D

Soon it will be 2 storage units... ;)

dude it's time to sell something.
I hear about all these old ops who pay $400 a month for storage, and then after 10 years sell the games for what they are actually worth.

Mmmmm, storage. Love it.

What are the rates in FL?

I've noticed the rates have decreased a bit in the last year.

Paying to store a russian attack in a zaxxon cabinet is never the right answer.. there is enough wood there to heat your home for day..

Agreed. I am hanging on to that one for the monitor mostly. I think I picked it up for $25.00 a while back and it has a gorgeous burn-free monitor in it.

Everything else in there I plan on restoring and keeping.

P.S. It's OK. Eighty bucks a month isn't going to take any meals out of my children's mouths. ;-)

How long do you plan on keeping the storage unit? A year or so will cost almost a grand. Can't you have a Toughshed built to store the games on your property? Unless you're renting.

The unit I got is up for a new payment and I think I will have to get out so I dont get hooked. :p

I had a deal where you get 4 months for the price of 2. Well 4 months ends this month. I still have 7 games in there.

$960 is enough to buy a nice Star Wars.... or a years worth of "storage". Doesn't sound like a great deal to me. Storage = losing proposition.

Sorry, but storing worthless project cabs is pretty frikkin stupid. What the hell is the point of being in this hobby if you don't actively enjoy all of your machines? At that point you are just a hoarder.

Sorry for being blunt, but I think this is a very, very bad idea and a signal you need to re-evaluate.

I've learned that project games at good prices come up all the time. No need to hoard them. When you have space available for a project, just go out and get one.

I think Frizz made a great point. 1 year of storage or a nice condition Star Wars...you decide.

With all due respect ...

5-7 project games in a storage unit is NOT HOARDING. Every last machine in there I intend to restore (except for probably the Zaxxon) ... the problem is that when they are stuck in my garage, I have nowhere to work on them. As a result, they simply sit there collecting dust while I maneuver around them.

Now, I have plenty of space in the garage to work on the two games that are left in there. Quite possibly, with any luck, I'll actually finish one and be able to grab one of these from storage and start working on it next.

We have no basements here in Florida, so my only option for a workspace is my garage. It is well worth $80.00/mth to me to have the space available in my garage to work on games whenever I want.

As for the $960.00 bucks ... seems like a small price to pay to me and you can keep your Star Wars (that game sucks anyway). ;-)

Didn't realize this topic was going to bring out the judges, juries, and executioners ... its not like I'm parting them out. :)

If you actively use the storage unit as a work space, then more power to you. Just giving my two cents. What else did you post this for?

Want a basement? I'll happily trade my locale in WV for yours in Florida. :D

That is a good point however about the $960. You do realize that the expense will never stop? So, let's say you keep storing games for 5 years. That $960 adds up to $4,800. I would think that any homeowner would be wise to consider getting a quality water tight shed built on their property instead.
