Ivan Stewart Off Road

Man it's hard to believe there is this many bad boards. I'm curious if there is a track pack working anywhere right now.

Does it make sense for them to suicide the track pack but not the standard board? From what I can tell they are identical boards, so I can't imagine one would be suicide and one not.

Also, I am ordering parts from Jameco right now, so I am going to order the chips listed on page 3 and just swap them all one by one.

If there is anything you want me to try and replace then let me know. I am placing the order in the next few hours.

Well I got my GQ-4X programmer today. I just started pulling roms of the board and dumping them to compare to the mame sets. I've done 4 so far and 2 have been bad. I only bought 5 new 27512s but I will just try erasing what was on the board and reusing. If I can figure out a good way to get these stickers off.

I am not sure if this is unheard of or not, but out of 7 chips so far, 6 have been bad. I can't even write back to them. I have erased them and checked them for black (which they are) and I can't write too them.

I ordered more 27512s to just keep moving along. Gonna bring home my non track pack board and see if there is maybe one bad chip on that one giving me my sound issues.

I am following your updates, they have been very helpful. So can we assume that we have bad roms with this issue. Are there writable chips available for replacement? are we talking about ther 27512s, there? And finally what about security chips- are they seperate deals here, if this board suicided what did it take with it?

The bad roms on the board were just 27512s. I only ordered 5 (duh, thinking that would be enough) so I am waiting for more to come in.

I even erased the ones that were in there and tried rewriting them and it would fail. My errors in Rominit ranged from Not Found to Bad Rom/Blank Rom

The only bad chips on the bottoms board were u90 and u92 and they are both 27128.

Figure I will just do my best to get all good roms on there based on the MAME set, if it still doesn't fire up at least I know that part is fixed LOL

I managed to find the issue withe my non track pack board (it's in another thread) but that had 4 failed roms as well, but it was a freezing issue related to sound.

Just to condense my last post a bit.

Track Pack Board (White garbled screen issue).

Top Board
U2, U4, U5, U6, U7, U14, U58 and U59 were bad

Bottom Board
U90 and U92 were bad.

I have replaced all but U7, U14, U58 and U59.

Will update when I get more 27512s in (should be Wednesday).

Ok, got my chips in today but didn't get a chance to start working on them.

I have a test bench setup now with a 19" monitor, but I can't get the game to display correctly on it. I am testing with my board that looks fine, but just has sound issues and the screen looks like it's out of sync.

I double checked my wiring harness and it's correct as far as I can tell. R G B Ground, neg horizontal and negative vertical. It would really help me with troubleshooting if I could get it working on my test monitor.

The monitor works fine with any jamma pcb I plug in. Maybe I will just pull the video harness from my cabinet.

I just noticed something while probing around my 2 super off road boards tonight. Wonder if someone else with the WHITE screen issue can see if it's similar for them.

On the bottom board, U33, U35, U46, U48.

These 4 chips were so hot that they actually burned my finger when I touched them. That is not the case with my board that just has sound issues (demo mode works fine when sounds are turned off).

Can anyone else check this out? I never noticed it before, but I never really had the board on for more than a few seconds at a time to check bootup.

I noticed this on one of mine awhile back, I was a little shocked they were so hot, I was sure what my had just touched at first.

Can anyone else check this out? I never noticed it before, but I never really had the board on for more than a few seconds at a time to check bootup.

I have an actual burn on my finger from it. I could melt a crayon on the thing. All 4 were that hot, but not on my non track pack board.

I checked voltage on one of them and it seemed fine.

Did you ever try replacing it?

Well I swapped out those 4 burning hot chips (two of them, the socket is actually partially melted) and came up with this screen instead.

Not any better, but progress?

I just bought an Off Road machine from a guy who ran routes. I don't know a whole lot about the game's internals, but the marquee says trac pac. Not sure if I could help at all.

Well, I can think of a question for a working Track Pac. Does the battery on the board still have juice? Because I'm still wondering if these boards suicided on us.

Just curious, those of you with non working boards. Have you tested voltage? My board seem to pull a lot of LOAD.

My PS has to have the 5v dial almost maxed out (6.01v when measured at the meter) in order for my bottom board to get 5.20v.
