ivan stewart off road/track pack issue with screen/board

I just picked this game up and I am starting to trouble shoot it (hopefully)

The game coins up with all 3 players, and all controls work nicely.

When the game is on, there is a little bit of quick rolling/flashing(lightly) on half of the screen, it is annoying but doesn't stop play.

Initially I thought it was a cap kit thing, but I started to play the game and noticed that the track was messed up looking. A better way to put it, the track that was displayed was not the track that I was playing. I watched as the robot cars drove around and they basically drove around invisible obstacles. When I made it to the 2nd screen, the same exact track was up on display, but obviously the robot cars drove around invisible obstacles again to compete in the race.

my +5 and +12 seem good, though I didn't test them on the board yet.
After I pulled the board I noticed a reset button, I wish I would have pushed it prior to pulling the board.

I guess I should just reseat the roms and see where it takes me?
Also there is a lithium battery connected to the board, guess it goes without saying I should cut that off?

Also, it's a k7000 and the knobs on the flyback are black, does that mean I don't need to insta-change it?

after messing with it a bit more and turning up the +5 to 5.07 at the point where it's entering the board, same problem.

After more analysis, a better description of what's happening would be:

the track is lifted about 10" up through the top of the screen. rotated upwards.

I guess a pic would speak 1000 words, I will get one after I reseat the chips if it does not help.

where/when/how.....

Dammit Dylan !!

I've been looking for that game (mostly on CL nor cal area) for over a year now - only seen them a couple times and not the track pack version....

I've got a Super Sprint that I want to park the IISSORTP (Ironman Ivan Stewart's Super Off Road Track Pak) next to....

Where/When/How much did you score that one for?

Oh, and Pics Pulleaaasssszze !!!! :)

Here are some pics of the screen.

After reseating all of the socketed chips, it's basically the same only the 2nd screen got worse. The 2nd screen appears to be centered now, but you can see the complete orange wave covering it.

The first 3 pics are of screen 1, the 4th pic is of track 2 after I reseated the roms (prior to reseating them, track 2 looked like track 1) the 5th pic is track 3.

rom issue?

I guess these pics at first glance don't seem that bad, but the track is 6-10" too high on the screen, but when you are racing you are racing as if the track is in it's normal position 6-10" lower.

oh and I picked it up at sunrise fun center. Never heard of it, but they went out of business. He has a couple of other games for sale. An Arnold Swarzennegger T2, he also has 2 coin machines (good ones, upright) he said he'd sell for $50. I don't know if they work, but I thought he said one of them does.

His name is Barry 402-6542, he told me to give his # out if someone is interested in something. He has a steel talons as well, said it would go for $100.

One of the coin machines is missing parts so pretty sure it doesn't work. I think the other one does. What was left when you went there? I'm just curious as I think I was the second person to go there a week ago and I brought the third person who cleared out a good deal of stuff from the place. Were the air hockey tables still there or did they sell?

I'm about 99% sure you have a board issue on that game. Possibly RAM but I'm not certain. See if the game has a test mode that might help you determine the issue.

You're pretty well screwed if it's a board problem. Nobody works on them, and even if you could figure it out on your own, the chips aren't available anymore. :( I've got a 3-player project cabinet in my garage just waiting for a working board.

Edit: Are they Rowe change machines? I might be interested in one.

If I had space to store one it would be no problem bringing it to CAX since I will already be bringing a truck load of games. The bigger issue is where I would be able to put it in the mean time. If I had space i might have bought it for myself along with an air hockey table and probably a few other things that were really good deals.

It's kind of pipe dream for me, no worries if it can't be worked out. But if you do think of something, let me know! :p

Edit: Goddamn $50 for a working machine is a hell of a deal though... Would anyone else be able to hold onto until CAX?

Token machine....

I think you might get lucky and have it be one of the replaceable roms. I'd dump them and check against the mameset if I were you. Can probably burn a new one to fix it.

yeah I don't do any of that stuff, guess I need to find a willing helper (paid of course)

OH and to answer your question Dan. There are a couple of HUUUUUUUUUUGE games left, I think he said he gave them to someone and they are going to come pick them up. There is a T2, the golden tee, the steel talons, 2 token machines, and that's about it. Not much left in there. I score a few tokens from him.

try pulling cleaning and reseating U90 and U67 to see what happens. based on your pics those may be the ones in question that have issues.

I did them all already. I suppose I could go back and give it another shot with those.
Guys can burn these huh? I mean a guy more skilled than I.

I happen to read in the manual that the +5 needs to be between 5.20 and 5.24 so I made that adjustment already as well. Guess I will go fish around u90 and u67 and see if anything looks weird.

well U67 is the Z80 on the top board

U90 is on the bottom board, and it's a process to get to it, so I will do it later on tonite.

I have some Z80A's the bob shipped me (when I asked for Z80's) I guess those probably won't work huh?

is the z80 on the top board just a z80 or is it a z80B z80C etc? if it's just a z80 or a z80A then your z80A should be fine. If it's a z80B or C or whatever it probably won't work.
