Ok so I was surfing craigslist and I found this "Gyruss"

http://tucson.craigslist.org/vgm/1613365988.html
I call him up and he talks about that a component died or something in the Gyruss and he gutted the game monitor, board and all, "chucked it" painted the art work over with a nice coat of white. Then wall papered comics on it and stuck a cheap T.V. in it. While I'm listening to all of this I though "WTH is wrong with this guy!!"

I haven't looked at the game.. I really like the game Gyruss. I this worth a restore? He said he left the marquee. I'm overwhelmed with projects right now... ugh!

Should I let it die or take it in?

Can you get stencils for this game?

I might lean more towards getting it if anybody out there chips in gyruss parts such as the monitor or board to restore it..

From what it sounds it might be worth $50 max. Who knows how long it would take to track down all original Gyruss parts and repaint the cabinet. Sadly, this one might be past the point of no return unless you have tons of money and time to blow.

You can find complete Gyruss machines for a decent price. It would cost more to put that one back together than to just buy a working one.

Your right. I like restoring the games, but his one doesn't seem 'fun'. But I would be amazing to bring this ugly son of a compacter back from the dead.

Giving him any money for the crime he committed would be enabling him...

Well, assuming that the board is in there, the marquee and CPO and bezel are original, it just comes down to putting in a monitor and repainting, right? Stencils ARE available for this. A lot of people who have been doing this for a while have an extra monitor lying around.

Still, I'd go look, and if only the monitor/sides are the issue, offer him $100 (maybe $125) and see if you can get it home. Make sure you can here it play blind...

I'd give him $10 to let me kick him in the nuts as hard as I could for committing a class A gaming felony. What a douchebag!

You should go just to take a pic of it.

And from that post, his mental acuity is definitely low...

For the gyruss stencils I google it,look at sites that sell reproductions and stencils.. And I found nothing. Would anybody on here have some lying around?

There is no electronics that I know of in it. Im guessing there might be a coin door.

I'd love to find a Gyruss cab like that and convert it to a time pilot to go next to my nice gyruss :)

I would pass on that unless its $25 or so.

nope..it's junk

He gutted it and pasted comics all over it.. it's pretty worthless unless you happened to have all the parts kicking around.. by the time you track down the parts, refinish the cab, you'll have spent more than its worth x2.. They pop up for $150-300 working.. unless you live on an island or in some remote place in the world, you'll find another.. let this one die :(

Pete

Definitely a few loose screws there. Maybe all the crap could be removed from the sides. It sounds like a major project. But look on the bright side, you get a Sega Genesis too!
