Picked up a GoldenTee 3D a month or so back off CL for $50. Owner said it didn't work, but he could hear it play. I wanted a nice jamma horizontal cabinet for my JROK board and others. So I go to pick it up and it's a conversion with a 25" monitor in it!

Today I finally start to look at it and it really is just a fuse!

"Really was just a fuse" needs to be a sticky thread!

EDIT: btw, he said he had 8 or 9 people email after me, but I was first. I told him it was nice that he stuck to that and he said he had been stuck waiting for others to show up for other CL items only to have them not show. So we were both happy.

I picked up an Asteroids a few weeks back. The ad said "It could be as easy as a light bulb"

Obviously the seller knew little about arcades.

I picked it up... and it fired up right away. It had switches on the back door and coin door. It just took a few seconds to warm up

The guy I got the Joust from (seperate thread) was selling some Froggers on Ebay as well. The guy showed up to pick up a Frogger on Thursday and asked if they could plug it in to see what was wrong with it. The seller said sure, plugged it in and it wouldn't start the game. So the guy dropped a quarter in, it coined up and it played fine. It just wasn't on free play and the coin door was locked (no keys)! So he got a perfect Frogger for $50. Just needs to drill out the lock on the back and put it in Free Play.

Why did he do it at the guy's house? Never understood that. All you're going to do is piss the guy off and give him the opportunity to change his mind.

I picked up an Afterburner for $50 non-working. When I got it home there was 1 fuse blown on the fuse block. I replaced it and it has been running solid for the last year. Go figure.

(adds story) - picked up a tekken 2 a few weeks ago at an auction, "untested, cant find on switch anywhere" well the plug wasnt pushed all the way into the power supply in the back.. runs like a top :)

kind of OT, buttttttttt

my marquee turned on......it *was* just a lightbulb. it's lookin kinda bright with 2 new cfl's in it.

Today I finally got a chance to look at the Turbo Outrun I picked up a week and a half ago. Replaced a single fuse on the PS fuse block and the monitor came right on. Got to play my first game of Turbo Outrun ever.

I had a guy I knew give me a converted Moon Patrol cabinet for free because he said it didn't work. I get it home and go to plug it in to test it out and...there wasn't a power cord. I get a spare power cord, hook it up and plug it in, fired right up. Not sure if he thought it ran on solar power, batteries or what.

I bought my Tempest for $50 from my now closed local arcade. The power cord had been cut so I obviously had to replace that. After plugging it in I got it to play blind so I figured I had some monitor work ahead of me. Something I read online reminded me to try turning up the brightness to see if I could get any kind of picture and sure enough there was the Tempest attract mode running perfectly!

In 1 out of 1,000,000 people saying this, sure it's bound to come true eventually!

I picked up a 1000 Mile Rally in a 25" Cut Corner Dynamo cab... nice condition... non-working. It was FREE!

I got it home, pushed the two boards that were sandwiched together and viola!!! It worked!

I bought a non-working Galaga from Frizz, replaced a fuse on the monitor and reseated some chips and had a working Galaga. :D

For the sake of clarity... so as I don't look too foolish...

I'd picked the cab up less than 24 hours prior to Hatrick taking it off my hands... and I actually suggested to brother Hatrick that the monitor issue was "probably the fuse" since the chassis had come loose and grounded to the frame.

:)

hehe, I forgot to mention that part ;)

I picked up a Pole Position for $50 that played but the monitor looked funny. Got it home and reseated the connectors and it plays great. No burn in on the monitor and the boards had already been fixed. Looks better than my old one.
