Now I know my golden tee 2016 hooks up to my arcade monitor via VGA, but is there a way to utilize a standard arcade monitor? One that doesn't have VGA? Am I missing something super easy?

I see these games retrofitted into the regular IT games cabinets (Usually old Golden Tee cabinets) but they seem to all have the older 27" WG monitor, that doesn't have VGA....

How are they doing this?

the manual shows how to change the resolution setting. i dont think the older ones do CGA but you might want to double check.

It's not the dip switch settings I am after, but rather the connector themselves.

The nighthawk only has a VGA port, but the older 27" WG monitors do not have a VGA input port, so how do I hook it up?

you would need one of those crappy ebay converters i would imagine. you are better off fitting a new screen like i did IMO. the picture looks like shit on an old monitor, even VGA.

Power Putt!

I can't wait to get my rig up and running!

What TV/monitor did you buy?

The computer hooks to an in/out board, which puts out a cga or ega signal with traditional monitor wiring

I guess I will have to take a closer look at the I/O board tonight. I am at the finish line with my silver strike live restoration, and currently, I just hook up a PC monitor or TV directly to the nighthawk system via VGA.

So I assume the VGA comes out of the nighthawk, and into the I/O board and then through the JAMMA connector runs to a regular monitor?

There are plenty of Tri-Res 27" CRT montiors out there... that is what the newer IT games used before going to LCD. Not to mention anything before GT Live used medium res.

But then you're stuck with a stretched image (unacceptable to me!) unless the PCB supports widescreen resolutions?

I'm assuming you have a dedicated I/O board? Otherwise, you can certainly run a CGA monitor right off the JAMMA loop. You just have to set the dips to Standard resolution.

Yes, the nighthawk system has an I/O board that needs to wired in.

If you are really dead-set on using a CGA monitor, you could try to pick up a JAMMA I/O board. They connect to the Nighthawk via USB, and wire the cab as JAMMA. But if you are going to go to that length, it's probably easier to just throw a nice LED in there. Bigdenny is an IT Guru. If it can be done with an IT game, he'll know how to do it. ;-)

Would a TV be better or computer monitor? LED or LCD?

I have a 27" computer monitor (LCD) in each of my SSB and TTP. I went with the computer monitor because they come on automatically when power is applied (TVs usually default to the "off" state), and retain their configuration settings. They look nice, but the only thing I'd caution on is viewing angle. You want something that has the widest viewing angle so it can been seen clearly from any direction. My LCDs are great if you are in the "playing" position, but get dark if you're off center.
