ISO: Capcom Big Blue

Nah, it is just those willing to work for what they want that get the things they want.

  • My 1st Big Blue, I made a 10 hour round trip past Reno to meet the seller at some desolate bar in the middle of Pyramid Lake on Labor Day weekend a year ago. Behind the bar was his storage unit where he had a dilapidated Big Blue that needed some restoration love.
  • My 2nd Big Blue, I got lucky and was the first person to make an offer to the guy 30 mins after he posted it.
  • My 3rd Big Blue was a converted Golden Tee 99 cab that didn't work. I recognized it as a Big Blue. Lowballed the guy. He didn't buy it. Then I waited till the price dropped on it knowing it could be snatched up under my feet at any moment. Once it hit a number I liked, I trounced it.
  • My fourth Big Blue, I over paid for it. But it turned out well since it came with a hi-res monitor.
  • My fifth Big Blue, I offered to trade it for a cab that I didn't yet have in my possession plus some cash for it. I made a 120 mile round trip to pick up the cab to trade for it. Then arranged the next day to trade that away plus cash for it. Another 50 mile round trip.
  • My 6th and last Big Blue, I bought here from this forum. I went all the way to San Clemente to get it. Yeap, that is just north of San Diego. I spent a whole week in SoCal on my friend's couch because I got stranded there while getting it.

None of my Big Blues took less than 3 hours round trip to get. And for each Big Blue I have, there were 2-3 that I was beaten to the punch to by mere moments. Zero238 knows what I am talking about because every time I miss a deal, I tell him about the struggle over at www.arcade-projects.com where we hang out a lot. My struggle pales to what Zero238 had to go through to get his.

The only reason why I haven't reached out to the guy in San Diego is that I think I am done with acquiring Gen 1 Big Blue's, having 4 of them now. I want one more Sharkfin Gen 2 Big Blue and a BigTop Gen 2 Big Blue. The plan is to have a row of them with two Shark-Fin Gen 2 Big Blue's bookending the 4 Gen 1 Big Blue's and having either my SnubTop Big Blue in the middle, or a Big Top Big Blue in the middle.

Can't blame me if you don't get what you want. No one gave me my cabs. I had to go get them. Like I said, you better get that one before I do/change my mind. San Diego's hot women is reason enough to make a trip down there. I don't need to be further incentivized with a Big Blue to pick up while I am there.

P.S. You should join arcade-projects.com. We do cool things over there. Plus you can keep tabs on me and Zero238's friendly East Coast/West Coast Big Blue battle.

I'm not hating in the slightest; I'm totally jealous. All I want is one big blue to call my own. I don't have a lot of money, I had to sell off a lot of things to even have a small sum to afford this.

I messaged the previous lead and maybe it works out. If it doesn't then it wasn't meant to be. If you want to pounce on it, then that's your prerogative, it's all good.

On topic, I started this thread in the hope that I'd find an affordable local, maybe it's not meant to be.

My cheapest was a big blue that was empty for $150 and that is still a lot for wood. Expensive went for $750 for a dedicated Captain Commando in MD and a SF3 2nd impact in NY. Bought my big blues since I want to host a SSF2 Tournament and wanted to have a set of the same cabinet. Have to sort my money situation first before I start doing anything to them.

I know brutha. I don't say that mockingly. I started the arcade hobby 2 years ago right as things were turning into a seller's market. And right now, it truly is a seller's market. Buyers have money now and owners need money more than ever. You just have to be willing to put in the effort and be ready with resources when they become available because it goes quick.

The ones I have, I am going to enjoy them. I asked for your location so that when one pops up, I could notify you. I have friends on these forums that do the same for me when one pops up in the same area. I can tell you in the past 3 months, I have seen several go up for sale in our parts for $50-$500. The one for $50 and came with a Super Turbo OG marquee and was totally restorable. That alone was is worth $50, easy. Probably $200 to the right buyer. I missed that by about 1 hour. The owner of Nickel City in San Jose was selling all of his for $500, I got one of those. It was the one that came with the high-res monitor. He also had a Big-top Big Blue, but he was asking too much for it. Another one, I had arrangements to pick up at asking price the next day, the seller texts me a few hours before our arranged meeting and told me that he sold it already for an extra $50 over asking price. Then there are those sellers that suddenly say, "I had a change of heart and am going to keep it." when you know you go shilled by someone that emailed them that said "I'll give an extra $100 if you sell it to me now....." Happens.

So be ready to commit. You are asking for something that is a hot commodity as a result of the times you are asking for it in. When the economy tanks again in a few years, it will be a different story.

#1 Gen 1 completely empty, vinyl peeling $200
#2 Gen 2 Sharkfin w/SF3 NG $350
#3 Gen 1 w/Golden Tee 99 vertical collapsed monitor painted black $300
#4 Gen 1 w/Sega Naomi Spawn & Hi-res monitor $500
#5 Gen 1 w/Tekken 3 $400
#6 Gen 2 Snubtop, after trade costs, $150

All picked up within about 1 year. Four were picked up in areas surrounding the SF Bay Area. #1 which came from Pyramid Lake, Nevada and #5 which came from San Clemente. It can be done especially in CA.

My only reason for picking up the one in San Diego at this point would be to spite Zero238 :p.

Now you're just breaking my heart. I think the proper reparation would be to give me one of your cabs. I'll give you cash and the naming rights to my 3rd child :)

And this is why I haven't sold mine for the ridiculous offers I've received. Came close but I still have it. It took a 12 hour round trip and $150 to pick it up working with SF2. Good luck with your search.
