And I don't see the "check out my awesome high score" post as any different than the "check out the awesome game I just got for $50" post or the "check out my awesome restoration" post. Is it bragging or is it just sharing excitment with like minded people, or is it both?

I agree for the most part. People get excited and want to share with somebody else who gives a crap. My wife is always amazed at how I can sit and talk with fellow collectors non-stop even if it is the first time I have met them in person. When you are passionate about something it is no fun trying to tell something they don't give a crap about. Just like if somebody came up to me all excited about how they just reached a new level in WOW or the new drapes they just made or whatever. Uhm, okay, good job dude.
