Is Vinyl a necessity for Side Art?

1st off I scraped away the Vinyl with a heatgun on my DarkStalkers cab because it was thrashed with no side art anyways, then I painted over it with black primer. I thought about having custom side art put on it, but I noticed there would probably be a lot of small air bubbles because it's not a completely flat surface (particle board?). Do you think it would be too risky to apply side art without new vinyl applied?

Here's what I'd like to have...

If you end up with small bubbles you've installed wrong.

Take your time when installing.
You can do it either way. its your cab.
Is the custom side art a full image to cover the cab?
if so, just apply that.

You gotta ask yourself, You want it done right, or right now?

no but a nicely vinyled side can be a work of art in itself.

Sadly it hides nothing and shows all imperfections.

Yeah, I definitely didn't do a professional job as my resources and work space were limited. Anyways the art wouldn't cover the entire wall because I don't have photoshop or any advanced program for that. I would simply have the image blown up to cover as much as possible within it's rectangular space.
