Is TRON overpriced forever?? is it just temporary?

Well,
My tron is in nice shape - original and a bit worn. However, as im still thinking of selling my collection, I guess I would have to jump on the bandwagon and throw it on ebay as well.
Yes, collectors may scoff at the high price because we all know what they could have been gotten for...but with the movie hype and individuals wanting a piece of the movie - like it was said before - all bets are off.
So, with my disclaimer being said....

do you (collectors) think that they will be worth more before or after the movie. Since you actually see a tron game in the movie - wouldn't that spark some interest as well?

definitely worth more after the movie opens. Once people see the movie there will be new fans and once they see the tron game in there then they'll want it. I'd wait untill the movie is out. maybe have the listing end one week after the movie debuts. (IMO)

I think this is a really good time to sell Tron items I can't believe what the original 20th anniversary dvd is going for on feedbay around $75-80 dollars and let alone the Tron cabs keep climbing on price maybe do it now before it goes away if your really wanting to get rid of your Tron's I know i'm keeping mine since it took me forever to find one they don't come up often for sale in california.

The biggest issue that i have with all the whining about price gouging, hype pricing etc. is that there seems to be a twisted sense of entitlement on this forum. Just because you're a member doesn't mean that anything over $50 is robbery, a scam, a travesty or overpriced. It simply means that you've fallen into the tightwad category and have been brainwashed into thinking that this place is where all games values are chisled in stone and you'll be goddamned if you're gonna pay a penny more. If the true value of these things was determined by the members here, there wouldn't be a value high enough to even justify owning any game.

Step back a minute and ask yourself who's gonna buy your game(s) when you're ready to move on? Are you relying on people here?

Its OK, you found a pigeon and fleeced him good. Who could blame you?

Whats with the $50 comments? You're exaggerating to make a point, but its silly because everyone who looks in the For Sale forum knows the truth. Games sell here every day for $300 and up.

Snagging a broken game cheap and fixing it doesn't make someone evil or a cheap. Thats a hobbiest mentality and its a GOOD thing. The trade and repair of inexpensive projects keeps our hobby churning. To me, your angst about it seems kind of odd.

I still think its better to sell after the movie comes out. Rich buyers who can afford to drive up the price wait to the last minute to buy gifts and when they see the movie it will be total impulse buy.

Just because you scored a cheap Tron from someone who needed to get rid of it doesn't mean they are all worth that price.
Also prices change... I don't understand why people are saying that anyone "fleeced" someone or tricked them. Tron prices are up. If you sell shares of stock when prices are up you are not fleecing anyone... That is normal business.

And to flag someones craigslist ad because they are selling a Tron for $1600 obo is ridiculous and petty. Not going to mention any names. Pretty lame.

This.

You can find a crappy looking, worn out, or project Tron for under $500 (someone just picked one up for $100), but if you want a nice one that works perfectly and isn't going to break down in the next two months, then you'll most likely spend what it's worth to us collectors - about $800.

exactly. my tron only cost about $300, and i'm sure plenty of you have gotten one for less, but think about the figure it all adds up to once you get it into the same condition as chris'. i know all the artwork and shit i did to my tempest ended up tacking a couple hundos on to my initial cost.

Funny, I own the same Tron machine I used to play on when I was a little kid. I must have put over $50 bucks in tokens into it when I was young. Too bad I sold my 2nd Tron long ago.

I think anyone with a Tron should put it up for sale in the $1500-2000 range. Then take that money when it sells and put it in, say, a 2 year CD. After the 2 years is up go out and buy another Tron (I have a feeling they will be relatively easy to find). You'll have both the game and plenty of cash to spare, it's a win-win :D
That is unless the rumors of a third Tron movie are true... or a television series ;)

....my point of the original question had NOTHING to do with accusing anyone of gouging or hoarding- i even made a point to say so! the point is and was: we all know that the price of TRONs has shot up dramatically lately- for WHATEVER reason! but was this a market correction for an undervalued game, or a temporary spike? that was all i was goin for...

...i said it earlier... i dont think the typical moviegoer is ready to drop a couple $K on an arcade game over movie hype. It is more "us" and types like us who go after these vintage machines- I don't expect anymore of a price bump- I say sell now.

all we need now is a space invaders movie.. a pacman movie... perhaps a misile command movie... heck even a donkey kong movie...

then it will keep us all in business lol

(I have a feeling they will be relatively easy to find).

I beg to differ, why would it be easier to find one than before? Between being parted and damaged beyond repair in OP's warehouses the numbers of these left will still dwindle.

That doesn't make sense. I would still want to own arcade machines even if they had zero monetary value (in fact, that would be better, because I could get the ones I wanted for free). I like the machines and games themselves. When I was 12 years old, playing Super Punch-Out at the local general store, and vowing that I would own one someday, it certainly wasn't because I was thinking about how much I could sell it for.

Are you under the impression that most people on here buy these machines as investments or as part of a resale business? I would be surprised if that is actually the case here.

Sold my "good" condition tron for $700 4 years ago.
Tron has always been worth "more then it should be". After the movie they should come back down to this norm in time.

I was looking for a Tron for over a year and a half and couldn't find a super nice one for under $800. Tron's have been worth more than $500 since before the movie was even announced.

they should make a new tron game based on tron guy from south park(youtube)
that would rule....
i really would love to see a really funny south park arcade machine made.

Fuck the cab. Anyone see what the 2-disc DVD is going for on eBay new (sealed)? A decent condition set goes for $70 right now. I'm having some serious thoughts on selling mine. I could see Disney releasing the Blu in several months, when the new movie hits video.

I'd guess there will be sneak previews so we should be seeing the initial reviews very shortly.

What happens if the movie stinks? The first one wasn't that great.

I don't understand why the majority of a restoration forum would be bitter about a restored game selling on a very public facing website for big money.

EDIT: maybe "majority" is a poor choice. I'll replace with "some folks"

It is simple. They are ACTUALLY worried that they will never get a Tron again because the price is too high. And they are just talking too. Talky, talky, talk because they can. If one person starts a thread about price gouging, it appears that the forum is up in arms about it. It is just a couple nervous individuals who are panicking now that one of their grails is actually worth something.

Tron is also not easily replicated like Galaga or Donkey Kong. Any game that exists on a 60 in 1 board has had its value irrevocably damaged forever. Not Tron. It has that wacky spinner and fancy blue joystick. The cabinet is amazing looking with custom parts. You can't simply throw one together. I honestly wish all of the games were like this. That is why games like Star Wars and Tron will hold their value forever. You can buy full artwork, joysticks, etc. for Donkey Kong or Galaga in an instant, but not a Tron...

If you had offered up an absolutely PERFECT, mint-a-riffic Tron for $700 (before the movie hype began) to these same people complaining, they would turn you down because they couldn't afford it anyway. But the same person thinks that they can buy an old Tron for $100 and turn it into the mint one for less money. THAT is the KLOV sickness. What it 'might be' is often more important than what it 'actually is' on this forum.

The hilarious part is that these threads complaining about the 'problem' are actually making it MUCH worse. :) Go ahead and try to get a Tron from somebody right now. Even those who are arguing that the price is unfair won't let their machines go for anywhere near 'KLOV' pricing, because they know it is worth far more.

GO TRON!!! :)
