Is TRON overpriced forever?? is it just temporary?

so... i wonder what you think. i dont think there is alot of debate that Tron is currently overpriced. this is NOT an attack on anyone who is selling one! I think there are lots of reasons that it is currently overpriced- i cant believe that hype from the movie is doing THAT much. there is always the "craigslist effect" (more on that later). My real question, though: is it temporary? will it again one day be the $500 game it probably should be? heck, i bought mine for $100 and sold it, not that long ago, for $200! is it REALLY a $2K game forever?? dragon's lair used to bring crazy money and it has kinda cooled off- star wars never has... what is the fate of TRON?

I posted something about this yesterday. My belief is that this tiny "TRON boom" will be followed by some new, non-techy owners dumping their machines the first time the monitor / power supply craps out. Prices will definitely settle after the movie hype dies down.

Really?

It's like any game (or "object.") When it's in demand the price will go up. As long as people are willing to pay a certain price then the item will fetch a certain range.

Galaga, Pac-Man, etc used to bring $800+ all day long 5 years ago. You can pick them up for 1/2 that price all day long now.

I just sold my Tron for what I think is a fair price and it's no where near $2000. If you're referring to the one that was on ebay for $2200 the other day that thing is a special case. The Tron on Ebay was [basically] a brand new machine and should fetch far more than your run of the mill (non-mint) Tron.

temporary. They are marketing the hell out of this movie.*

*I'll be there opening night IMAX/3d. Lulz.

I just sold mine on ebay for $2200 was it overpriced? For this.group that feels $50 is too much to pay for anything, the answer is yes. Keep in mind that I listed it for $1.00. And somebody obviously felt that it was worth that much.

I think it sold for a fair price. There was obviously 1 person that it was worth that much to and another that thought it was worth very close to that. Nice sale if you ask me.

I don't understand why the majority of a restoration forum would be bitter about a restored game selling on a very public facing website for big money.

EDIT: maybe "majority" is a poor choice. I'll replace with "some folks"

I personally wasn't bitter, was just saying I'll take the grand if someone's willing to offer it up! :)

It usually ends up being money reinvested in the hobby in one form or another that wasn't in the hobby previously. I'm sure a lot of folks would use the cash to work on other projects, etc thereby keeping the hobby going in the process. I'm not sure what the issue is.

yeah... i wasnt referring to showpiece perfect cab going for $2K- i get that! but you see cabinets all over the internet going for $1500 and up. I generally don't buy the movie hype excuse. it is like people expecting comics to go up in value when spiderman or batman or xmen movie hype is going on- it just doesnt happen! the people selling try to convince you it does! the fact is: the typical schmoe excited about the new spiderman movie isnt the type to drop $10K on a comic- and the high end collector willing to drop the cash is probably not fickle enough to get sucked into movie hype- he's already a fan! does this translate to tron? WE are the people buying machines. would someone from outside the hobby drop that much cash just because he's excited about the movie?? here's a thought: maybe it's been UNDERvalued all this time! we just all needed reminded

Thought

Here is a thought. Is Disney giving out promotional cash for the theatres showing the movie to decorate there lobby? I ask because I have been approched by 2 different theatres that want to rent 20 or so games for the week before and after the premire of the movie. Maybe some of the theatres are buying them? Either way. It seems like they are selling for what they are worth in the current market.

how cool it would be if this all relaunched the existance of classic movie theater arcades!

That'd be awesome. But I don't think it'll happen.

I still read rumors about a potential sequel to The Last Starfighter, though...

That would be very awesome. Some of the new games that they have in theaters are pretty cool though. I must have dropped at least $10 into the Terminator shooting game. Kids and I had a blast playing it.

I hope the price stays up until I sell my other three extras!! :D
