Is This Worth Restoring ?

when they closed the arcade, Capcom was in Sunnyvale, 1 block off of Lawrence on Oakmead Parkway next to a Neflix disdy center.

They have since moved to San Mateo.

Midway/Atari used to be off of Fair Oaks and they knocked the building down to build some condos.

It isn't a Centipede because of the top angle, coin door, and the extra depth on the front of the game where the monitor is. You can tell it's a Kangaroo or Arabian and not a Dig Dug because the lower back corners are cut. On Dig Dug they are square. I'm not sure how to tell whether it's a Kangaroo or Arabian other than taking off some paint. Most of both of those games got converted.

Thanks Wade !

I will be taking some paint off this week to see what it is . There is a Namco sticker on the back though , I thought that would indicate Dig Dug ? Wasn't Kangaroo and Arabian Sun Electronics ?

I had a friend that lived off of Fair Oaks so I'm pretty familiar with the area . I must have drove by all the time and didn't even know they were there . Wow there was alot of game company's in Sunnyvale . We're fortunate to live where arcade games are pretty common .

The Bay Area is pretty much where video games started. With Woz, Bushnell and others in that area it couldnt help but come to life there.

There were also some Capcom arcades in San Jose. I think they were called "Nickel City."

Yeah I used to go there but haven't been there in years . I'm gonna check it out again soon .

I went to GolfLand in Milpitas this last weekend and it was pretty fun .

Golfland is usually good for some fun. I worked for them when I lived there too. I worked at the Blossom Hill location. Did Milpitas get a Guitar Hero yet? Last I heard they didnt have one so I beat them to the punch and bought one for the Century Theatre location in the Mall.

I'm not sure what the Namco sticker is from or if it means anything... I haven't owned a Dig Dug but there isn't a sticker from the licensing company on any of the licensed games I've owned. Could have been owned by Namco Arcade at some point? Who knows.

No they didn't have Guitar Hero yet . They have alot of games now and the arcade looked alot better than it has in years . They had a couple of the new Japanese fighter sit down cabs with those HD monitors . But only two classic games , Ms Pacman and Galaga .

So theres no way to know for sure what it is until I take off some paint , which I'm gonna try to do today if I have time . But heres the sticker on the back , this is why I think it is a Dig Dug .

Wow, what a lose of income! Thats just stupid... Those fighting cabs with the HD monitors have really nice pictures though.

I would be willing to bet that is a Dig Dug, especially with that sticker on the back. Are the bottom back corners cut? Or are they just mangled up from years of abuse?

I guess it all depends on what you are trying to achieve. If you want the satisfaction of restoring the game, why not. But Dig Dug is not a very expensive game and you could probably find one for $100-$250 in working condition and needing little repair.

Seems like a lot of effort to get it working, and if that's what motivates you, go for it.

I'm really just a broke ass trying to get some classic arcade games the cheapest way I can ! If I brake even thats cool , I just don't want to put more into a game when I can buy one in better condition cheaper . But with everyone throwing parts my way I think it won't be too bad .

Ladies and Gentlemen I give you ........

Dig Dug !!!!

And this Dig Dug has angled back corners .

Your getting there...Have fun lol stripping the paint has got to be a pain in the ass.

And this Dig Dug has angled back corners .

All dedicated Dig Dug cabinets have angled back corners (if any exist that don't, I'd like to see a picture). Centipede is the one that does not have the angled back corners, but it also has other differences anyway (the most obvious being that the monitor cut-out areas in the side panels are shallower on a Centipede). Dig Dug, Arabian, and Kangaroo are all the same cabinet. Centipede is its own design that looks similar. This picture shows the most obvious difference between a Centipede and a Dig Dug/Arabian/Kangaroo cabinet:

Hmmm... that does point to it being a Dig Dug. It is possible the back corners were cut off at some point. Just strip some paint already. :)

Shoulda read the whole thread before posting. Guess I had the Dig Dug square corners wrong in my head... I should know by now not to try to remember anything.

Pretty common and everyone thinks that they're worth way more than the rest of the country. Scanning for a month and there are very few deals. My DK was $175 and was a very very obscure deal. No pics and I had to chase him down to a swap meet.

Game companies are pretty common here and so are many stories of HUO machines. Did you see the Atari employee gravitar on CL? I was thinking about contacting Dave Ralston to see if he'd sell me his 720 that he stored at his sister's place. Imagine owning the designers own arcade machine.
