First off , I'm not even sure this is a Dig Dug . It has a Namco sticker on the back , Centipede and Kangaroo had nothing to do with Namco , right ? I originally bought it just for the monitor but have been thinking about what I should do with it . I read about using Goof Off Graffiti Remover and was thinking about trying that on the sides . I can see some white on the edges from the original art . Theres several small holes that were drilled in the sides , not sure what those were for , maybe security bars . Not looking to make it Mint , just a decent Dig Dug .

So I would need a new CP , this ones been hacked , Bezel , Marquee , PCB board , which I'm thinking all this would be about $200 , sound about right ?

Or should I just pass and find another clean original Dig Dug and not bother since they are a pretty cheap , common game .

If the sideart is trashed after cleaning of the paint, how about making it a multipede.

PhoenixArcade has sideart for $90.
Mamemarqee for the multipede marquee.

The boards, cp, cpo, bezel. That would take some time finding some good deals to keep it under $300.

I have a Centipede and a Dig Dug that I picked up a while back that were in considerable condition. Amazingly enough, the Atari sideart is pretty damn durable. I used 3M Safest Stripper to take off the paint and it looks pretty good underneath. If you take your time, you can scrounge together parts pretty cheap. Most people will probably say it ain't worth it, but I am a sucker for punishment.....

Thanks for the feedback guys ,

bitburn - Thats a pretty good idea , but I'm picking up a Centipede this week .

bryan95502 - hehe , I don't know about off the wall , I checked it on KLOV and it looks pretty cheesy . There is someone searching for it on VAPS though , you should contact him .

arcadeannex - got any tips on using 3M Safest Stripper ? Did you try the Goof Off Graffiti Remover ? I guess I'll try removing the paint and see if the side art is any good and go from there .

If there is decent Dig Dug art under that I would make it a dig dug, the parts should be cheap. Otherwise 48-1 Dat!!!

Yes, the control panel layout suggest a quick and easy 48-in-1 cab. If it's already JAMMA and has a good switcher in it, put a better coat of paint on it (maybe sand a bit first) to pretty it up, and you can probably sell it for upwards of $500. Maybe more if you stick some kind of multi-art on it and change the bezel and marquee to match either the multi or one of the games on the board...

Are these Multi games really selling ? It seems like I see them all over the place and they are way over priced . I usually just laugh at them , but people are buying them up ?

Yeah it is Jamma with a switcher , but it looks like most of the original wiring and power supply and all that is still in there .

I just sold one recently for $1300 - but it looked almost factory new. And I had another person call me today, even though I marked in the ad that it was sold (the ad is still up because I have another game listed in it). I'm going to make more for Christmas.

I also sell them for about half of what the local retail shops sell them for, but I only do a couple a year...

LOL I was thinking about checking out that cab on Craigslist.
I went camping instead this weekend and didn't have time.
I already have enough projects in my garage.

Personally if you can get it looking like one of the 48:1 games I totally think its worth restoring w/ a 48:1 just cause of the instant save game feature.

I would say, try cleaning it. Sometimes that black paint will come off easy (scratch it off with your finger nail). Sometimes its on to stay. I put a ton of work into stripping the paint off a crystal castles and it came out ok. It was just too much work. Won't be doing that again..

The question is, why do you want to do it? Are you hoping its a dig dug? You do realize you could buy a working dig dug for around $300-$500?

If you really want to save a dig dug, I have a marquee and montior bezel. I have a kangaroo control panel and I am pretty sure its the same as dig dug.

Ha , yeah it was so cheap I just wanted the monitor because one of my games has really bad burn .

You have good questions ,

I hope its a Dig Dug , it does have that Namco sticker on the back .

But like you said its alot of work removing the black paint and I've never done it before . I don't really like chemicals and the fumes .

Well I'll give it a try and see what happens .

If the paint comes off and the art is good I could definitely use those Dig Dug parts , it will save me alot , not having to pay for shipping . I'll let you know what happens , if I need them .
