is this worth it?

well it matters if the pac-man side art and everything is o.k. under that paint.

I would guess nothing is cheap about these Midway parts.. But if you have some sitting around that would be this easyer.

i dont have any pac stuff :( but i hate to see it as some not so known game

Id haggle a little, looks like a decent project, you could get lucky and find the original sideart under the paint and in good shape.

thats what im thinking, if i get it and carefully remove the paint it may still be there and in good shape, if anything i could part it out and sell the cab

Save it

It's a fun project!

Save it if you have enough money to dump into it. Pac restorations aren't real cheap.

How could you ruin a perfectly good Arkanoid? :)

If you are patient you can get all the needed parts cheap, there are a lot out there. The hardest and most expensive part is the art. No matter what you do you are looking at over $200 in supplies. If you don't care about cab condition that much it really does not cost too much to get a Pac or Ms running.

$200 in parts I would think is impossible.. You should budget $400-$500 for parts. The cabinet art alone is more than $200... Then add monitor glass, marquee, control panel joystick, wiring, tmolding, pcb.. Thats still hoping the cabinet is sound and it has a good monitor.

even if it would cost the same, I would hold off for nice orignal.

kinda off topic question, a friend of mine is getting ready to buy a pacman and the person is wanting 750 for it and jeff my friend is going to offer 650, is 750 to much? i have seen it in person and its in really great shape, looks like its got new art work and CPO but im not sure, but its very clean

Maybe it's just me, but even 650 seems a bit steep on that one. I don't exactly keep up on pacpricing though.

The cabinet itself doesn't look too bad. There are a few options here.

Keep and play as is - Not a bad looking conversion and Touchdown Fever is actually a lot of fun. I used to have one and enjoyed it a lot, even though I am not a sports guy.

Keep current paint and reconvert - This would be a cheap (relatively speaking) way to go. Just peel off the side art stickers and install Ms. Pac hardware and cosmetics. You would have a respectable looking Ms. Pac with no side art.

Major overhaul #1 - Strip down cabinet and attempt to recover original artwork. This would be extremely time consuming but could be worth it, assuming that the original paint is in good condition and not beat to hell.

Major overhaul #2 - Strip down cabinet and repaint. You could go with solid yellow or blue and then install either Pac or Ms. Pac hardware and cosmetics. Good looking game, but again, no side art.

Major overhaul #3 - Strip down cabinet and repaint. Same as #2 but you stencil the graphics.

Major overhaul #4 - Strip down cabinet and replace artwork with Pac or Ms. Pac side stickers. May not have the exact original look but easier than stenciling.

Any way you go, you will likely have the aforementioned $200 bare minimum into the game. If you go with side stickers, it could be a lot more than that. It all depends on just how dedicated you are to bringing back a classic. I will offer a tip, if you reuse the control panel, be prepared for the major pain in the a** of removing those football shaped joystick handles. Last time I did that, it required 2 allen wrenches and 3 hands. Perhaps there is an easier way.

At any rate, its nice restore a classic to its former glory and all that, but be ready to spend more than you would pay for a working dedicated one.

im looking at it as a long term project and it would be a conversion which is something i want to try out :)

KI2 is a good one but way too huge for my place. Do yourself a favor and play Touchdown Fever a few times before you tear it apart. Its fun. I almost regret getting rid of mine.

Thanks I think :) I'm picking up this touch down fever and a killer instinct 2

I have ki2 marquee, hdd, and chips from good machine I converted back to ki 1, I also have a good pacman monitor glass with pretty good paint /art.

picked up the touchdown fever today and its in good shape just have to cap the monitor, the monitor does have pac burnin so that makes me happy
