I'm completely new to the hobby. We just picked up our first machine last weekend, and are thinking about getting another. How easily repairable is cabinet damage like this? In neophyte terms, what kind of work and expense would I be looking at? Thanks!

Anything is repairable, if you are willing to invest the time and money. That doesn't look too expensive, bondo, sanding, replacement t-molding -- just a big time investment.

If you are not too fussy, damage like that is a lot less noticeable if you just touch up the chipped black paint and tack the t-molding down with a screw at the bottom. That's what I would do, and see if I still wanted to keep the game come summer. Then if so, think about a more complete repair. Just my 2 cents.

What game is it? It looks like a Midway cab.

totally unrepairable. I will take it off your hands free of charge so that all you have to pay is the shipping.

But if you didnt fall for that then yes it just needs bondo, elbow grease paint and some molding. :)

It's a Tron, which I've wanted since I was 11 or so. Unfortunately, the really clean ones tend to cost way more than my DSA*, so I'm trying to balance condition and price with what I'm actually capable of doing myself as an electrically unskilled buffoon.

That's NOTHING! No biggie there, just get dirty and bondo that cabinet! That can be fixed in a few days tops.
Scrape out all the loose bits, bondo up the cracks, let dry, sand, repeat, then prime and then paint. Easy!

Well, damn. I probably should have sniped it at the end. I'm still brand-spanking new to all this.

It went for $770 on Ebay. What's a good price for a fully working, cosmetically fair Tron?

That isn't bad, price wise or condition. Tron can almost never be had cheaply on the open market. Even beat to heck ones sell for a lot of dough.

fair price. Yours cab is nice enough were you don't fell like you need to replace the side art(assuming the reverse side is good)..

You should check the battery on the PS board. Has it been removed or replaced.? Does it have an arcade shop or hacked in PS?

My tron has much bigger problems than yours. Mine is pulling apart internally. I need to come up with a plan to fix that. I guess yours could be doing the same and that might be why they stuck all the screws in the front edge. Either that or they were lazy and trying to hold the t-molding in place..

The good news: the Ebay buyer never paid, and when I saw it relisted and called the seller, he said he'd take $650 cash. Decent price?

The (potentially) bad news: what's with this cab? Shouldn't it angle smoothly down instead of being notched like that? Is this some kind of cab variation or a conversion? My guess is that it's been cut, but why?
