I picked up a Kangaroo today off of craigslist. When I powered it on, there were flames on a resistor and a diode(?). Pulled it out and it burned a hole at the yoke! The flyback visually looks fine and the original wiring looks intact so I assume it's hooked up to a ISO. Should I even try to fix this? Any guesses of what could have happened!? Tube has no burn in so would be nice to get it working.

nope throw it in the trash and get a real monitor like a WG4900 or a K7000.

you will pull your hair out on this repair for a monitor that will fail again.

Not even worth it. I say def keep the tube though. I would have no idea what would even cause that kind of damage. Crazy...

Ok thanks, I guess the verdict is in. Any ideas of what other chassis would work with this tube?

Holy bejeezus, that last picture! I've set a monitor or two on fire, but that is awesome.

no other chassis will work on that tube.:(

it is a CR-30 neck pin-out.

i would like to have the neck board if you want to get rid of it.

just lop off the wires that go to it drop it in a small box and ship it out no padding necessary.

What's your tube number and the measurement on the hori. and vert. of the yoke?

Green and yellow is your vertical. Red and blue is your horizontal. Take your meter and put it on ohms and stick the leads into the connector of the paired colors listed or right off of where they are soldered on the yoke. Nothing specific but maybe if you can't find the exact chassis we might be able to find you some other replacement.

that yoke will not work with any other chassis in the arcade world. the readings are to far out to be even close to anything else

again this TUBE is USELESS for any other arcade monitor chassis.

it is an oddball that no other manufacture of arcade chassis used it is a one of a kind.

you are better off trashing it and getting a real monitor in the game that will last years past this chassis will ever hope to.

do a search and you will see that no tech on here will even attempt to fix that chassis.

save the neck board, frame and fly if it was working and the yoke but other than that trash the rest.

find a doner tube for a K7000 and live happy.

No problem. I was getting ready to say it's VERY similar to a G07 if the pins on the tube were correct....
Hell even if the pins aren't correct on the tube he could still at least save the yoke if he wanted.. Or maybe sell the tube to someone who may need this 1 of a kind piece!

and yet another example of why the "trade name" among arcade nuts is "pieceoshita"

Man, that was a gnarly failure. I've seen traces blown off a board before, but I haven't seen holes blown through boards. Something has gone serioulsly Elvis on that one!

I've seen D9200's with half dollar sized holes in the board.

OP, that monitor is useless. Those tubes suck too so even if you get a working chassis theres a good chance that the tube is weak.

My guess would be the HOT and/or the flyback had something to do with that failure.

I re-capped a chassis that had a quarter size hole in it... Was still working fine. Someone had epoxied on a perf board that had one or two components on it.

Still working good..... I need to find the pic of it now...

If he doesn't want it, and it's complete including neck board, I'd like it. I have one of these in my Missile Command and it seems like I've got to hoard parts or swap it out to keep it going.
