Is this common on NIB Sterns?

That's still bs. Keep raising hell. It worked for me.

Wish I had more support like you :) The general concesus is I am overreacting... Trent even went to bat for me and they told him it was acceptable damage as well.

Glad it worked out for someone at least....

Who have you been dealing with? I dealt with Chaz and Patrick, and they were both more than helpful.

Patrick was my contact who said the QC leader called it Acceptable Damage. He emailed once, and after my reply that I would like a Playfield swap / etc. ... he hasnt replied in a week.

What did your damage look like? any chance you could send me a picture (Private or not)....

Wow - looks bad, and I must say worse than mine :) Thanks for the pics ... Glad they took care of that for you - I really doubt mines going to go anywhere - so better for me to move on and finish my Light Cycle / Recognizer mods.

I didnt say this but you should photo shop some "newly found" damage somewhere else with something like he just showed you. THen if they say they will swap you should make the damage happen...:)

Theres no way they think someone would do that just to get a playfield knowing the work that would need to be done when you get it.

Not a good idea. Your still going to have to send the playfield into Stern and have them inspect it after you swap it.

Or do what I did, and play it for a month and the damage might/will happen on it's own.

Im with you on the classics - Still great stuff to watch...

Yeah, RGP is usually very good to deal with, but this one question in 24 hours has completely changed my view - I have to say, I have never in my life been insulted so much, and I simply asked for opinions.

Im just going to drop this with Stern since it appears I have very little support to back it up - If they do read RGP, then thats the nail in my support coffin. They will be thrilled to see that the community at large is willing to accept pre-damaged machines from Stern.

With RGPers you never know what your going to get. I've been flamed numerous times on there, and all over for sale posts. Things have been said to me that were very insulting and over the line. I for one think you have a right to nit pick on a new in the box game. I don't hate the stern games, but some of them feel very "cheap" to me. Hope STERN makes good. Its nothing more than the cost of doing business.

Since most of Sterns sales are now to home buyers, it's in their best business interests to NOT sell people games with cosmetic issues like this. Tron must have had some experimental new playfield process or something...because I have never seen bad Stern playfields like this. The only problems I've had w/ Stern playfields are color registration errors, not issues with the clearcoat or paint. I've even owned heavily routed Stern games (TSPP, Elvis, Austin Powers) that once shopped and cleaned, looked brand new ....so - ANY wear on a new game, out of the box or after 1000 plays, is - IMO, unacceptable.

Yeah, I lost alot of respect for the RGP NG, but it used to be the only way I could ask the community questions until I stumbled on KLOV and I am thrilled to say that - I'll stick with this community since it seems to behave like adults. The comments in RGP were just insane, overall.

I agree with Home Sales, they need a better QC process .... Thats my main point to them.

But this issue is over - Trent raised it higher and argued, got Stern to look at it again - and NOTHING - they keep saying acceptable damage, but did say the final straw was the fact that I didnt buy a LE! So they may have replaced it if it was an LE ... So they are saying theyt wont support the Pro people as much as LE. Yeah, LE's are more cash - but the playfields are the same as far as the base goes ....

I still have issues with the words NIB and Acceptable Damage - How can something be New In Box and come with Acceptable Damage :)

Im good with it - At least now I can back to finishing my Light Cycle and Recognizer mods... And I can put my Cliffy Protector on my Arcade Shot...

Playfields are actually different between the Pro and the LE... and they do not have any more LE playfields.

wow. Stern blows doesent it? 4k for that shit? fuck you.

when the tron comcept was out there i wasnt impressed, saw the le and was like ok this is cool, now im seeing damn near everybody with playfield issues because they jam them togther with tons of "dont give a fuck"... nice.

Man Scott..
Your taking this better than I would. I'm not sure I could back down but I'm a stubborn F$%k!

I've had a couple issues in the past years with a appliance manufacture and a car dealership. Both.. in my mind where completely out of line.

I'm both cases they were fix by what you planned on doing...

Registering a domain...and telling your story...email link to everyone in the company.

You have the unique opportunity to have other know issues..with documented pictures that can be added to your site

I see www.SternSucks.com is available =)

And I agree about RGP. I would have a hard time believing that not one person from the negative posts...has ever put down 4.5k for a new machine for their collection.

ETA...I wonder if Stern is an ISO 9XXX company. You could have some fun with that!

If you go this route, you can use my experience and photos (I can give you a better write up), as long as you include what they are doing now to make it right. They are doing right by me, so I don't want my pics/experience to show up on a site that is purely bashing them.

:) I was going to text you about the Nightmare discussions with Stern - just got too sidetracked. And its scary that you brought up the domain name - I did research into (Sternsucks.com and sternpinballsucks.com)

Like you said, it was more to tell my story and warn others that may not know what Sterns stance is on any "factory issues". I would have reconsidered the purchase, but most likely, I would have still purchased - Like most people I would have thought "Im sure Ill be fine - I wont get an "issue" machine".

Oh RGP was brutal, I cant go read the post again or Ill reply and that will just fuel the fire. My wife said the same thing "They probably didnt drop $4500 on a machine". My other machines arent mint but most wear is the outholes, and not one has a hex head gouged into the playfield.

Im letting it sit for a bit - I may just register the domain to hold it for now - Then I can make a small site with a collection of Stern Pictures and factory damage / defects. At least to warn people.
