Is this a Tempest???

Looks like a half way decent conversion. No need to be a check book martyr. There are plenty of tempests out there. #originalconversionsmatter
good day.

Agreed, well done conversion.

am i still crazy?

Yes, unless you have a lot of cash to dump that you will never get back then go ahead.

Unless you have a monitor for it i would not even consider it

I would agree here.

Yea if you don't have a 6100 that has been bullet proofed, don't even think about it. Unless you know a lot about monitor repair that is.

And a bullet proofed 6100 will costs $500 easy.

this is what it cost me for my missing parts on my 6100 for my star wars.

but at least i had a good tube.

son of a bitch guys. well glad i learned from folks that have been there. i have no doubt that i could do the work, but the $ is a no go for now.
thanks
a bunch folks.

Why not do a partial restore by making it a multi-vector? No flaming folks and at least the outside is Tempest again.

im not gonna lie. i believe after selling the arcade parts that are working. i get the cab for free if its in good shape probably could find a buyer for that. and keep the raster monitor. who knows. $150 for it.

Will it cost you more to deconvert that cab than it will to pick up a complete Tempest elsewhere? Yes. But that alone is not necessarily a reason not to do it.

It depends on what your goals are, IMO.

If your goal is simply "to own a Tempest", then yes, there are cheaper and easier ways to get one. (Though personally, I think the days of $500 Tempests are rapidly coming to an close, as more people become aware of how much the parts are worth, and how sought after they are with all of the Quantums and MH's people are building and reproing.)

But if you're looking to actually rescue and restore a game by hand, from the ground up, then you will get far more satisfaction from deconverting that cab, than you will out of buying a different one. The parts can all be obtained, with money, persistence, and a little patience.

If you are the kind of person who genuinely enjoys building, learning, repairing and restoring things, then you will be very happy with the final product if you choose to deconvert. If you are not, then don't do it, as you will come to hate the experience.

Will it cost you more in the end than buying a complete cab? Yes.

Will it give you as much personal satisfaction to buy a complete cab outright, versus looking at a game that you love, that you know you put your heart and soul into bringing back to life, and have made uniquely yours in the process? Maybe.

If the idea of doing the latter appeals to you, then the EXPERIENCE (not to mention the knowledge you will gain by assembling a vector game from scratch) will be worth whatever it costs you to do it financially.

ive never been shy when it comes to projects. out of the 15 or so arcade machines and 5 pins ive bought and sold, only 3 of them were ever working and some folks may consider my definition of working to be very loose. mk2 and pacman were 100% deconversions. while most were basket cases that required persistence and a little knowledge.
ill think about more thoroughly as $$$ is an issue.
thanks for all the info folks. YOUR #1!!

I am restoring a tempest from parts. Boy do I know that is an expensive way of doing things.
It is more expensive than the 400 dollar tempest I was offered and it was working.

So why?

The cab has a klov history to it. Mind you it just a side note kind of history..
It just needs to be whole once again.
I got a 6100 with tempest burn on the screen. I got a steal of a deal from a fellow klov member.. 75 bucks..
I got a few tempest pcb board from a generous klov member who gave me a break on a price of two not quiet working pcb boards.

I am still on the hunt for the brick the ar and I could make my own wiring harness.

I am in no rush in putting this machine together.. It taken years to get this far and most likely it will take a few more.

Sometimes it just feels right to attempt a restore like this.

I agree 100%

Wait, didn't I just post that?

I'm not to far from you and saw that game a few hours after it was listed. I have a Tempest in a totally trashed cab and I didn't even bother calling. It will cost me less to make one from scratch.

I'm with everyone else, just buy one. The parts, shipping, and time to get all the guts is going to kill you.

Trust me. I'm upside down on a APB already and I am still short on parts but I figured WTH. I was going to get all new artwork anyhow so why start with a decent game right? LOL Start finding ways to justify it, cuz you're going to need them.
