you know what through me off was the hand grip on the back of the cab. thats the first time ive seen them on a tempest. anyone else seen them before?
thanks

The grip is a handle on the wood drawer/sled that pulls out, which holds the marquee fluorescent assembly, and speaker.

It's usually also screwed in from the factory, so if you pull and nothing happens, remove the screws from the 4 corners.

it's going to cost you more to de-convert that than to buy a working tempest (unless you have a bunch of tempest parts lying around)

not worth it most likely as the parts broken will cost way more to source than a complete broken/semiworking cab.

if you were going to deconvert it what would you offer to buy it? aka at what price point would it make sense?
thanks

even if it was free, you are going to spend more piecing it back together that what a complete working tempest sells for.

power brick - 100
harness - 75
monitor - 400
pcb - 250
control panel populated - 50-100
artwork - 250?
working ar2 - 40

Looks like a half way decent conversion. No need to be a check book martyr. There are plenty of tempests out there. #originalconversionsmatter

good day.

my mindset is this. the last relatively local (boston) tempest i saw sold for $600 non working in ok shape. so say it would cost another $200 to get working and complete maybe, now $800. i offered the guy $150 for a working game in a tempest cab. i have no doubt i can sell off the pcb, monitor, marquee, joysticks and get that $150 back. if i get lucky and the artwork is intact i think ill be in good shape. am i still crazy? also i might have a good source for monitors and parts.
thanks

Then again, this is a hobby, so if you are not trying to make money and truly want to preserve these classic games, then I say go for it.

Imagine once you are done with it, how beautiful it will be.

You will be proud and happy and you will have one of the greatest arcade games ever made.

Imagine all of those lonely Tempest parts lying around out there somewhere, just wanting to come home.

All will be right in the universe and the Arcade Gods will smile upon thee...

:D

There are several things you can do to help bullet proof a 6100, and the boardset, it's just expensive, and unless you offer alot of cash, most people don't want to sell them. But they are out there.

maybe they have talked me out buying. (whimpering quietly to myself)

Yea if you don't have a 6100 that has been bullet proofed, don't even think about it. Unless you know a lot about monitor repair that is.

And a bullet proofed 6100 will costs $500 easy.
