I am trying to identifly the monitor in my Donkey Kong Cabaret so I can order a cap kit. Here are some photos I took with it in the cabinet. Also I removed the audio amp board in the photos.

Looks like a Sanyo 20EZ chassis, but the frame looks a bit different. The audio board is definitely the same. What size monitor is this?

I am not sure, probably 14 inches? It is that cabaret that you saw.

Edit:
I was looking on Bob's site and it looks like it came in 19" and 13" I would say it is the 13"

OK, yeah, makes sense. I have never worked on a Nintendo cabaret before. Didn't know if that one had a full size monitor or not.

Thanks Ian! So we are 95% sure that this is a Sanyo EZ chassis? I am going to order the deluxe kit with the caps and transistors for the audio board too.

Kablooie!

If that's out of your early model cabaret then it's probably what Nintendo called a 14-EZW. I've got schematics for it if you need them.

Yes it is serial #01572, will Bob Roberts EZ kit work with it?

Oh and yes on the schematics!

I've got no clue on the Bob Robert's kit question but I'll try to scan that page of the scematics and post up a link here today. They will probably tell you a lot about what you need. At first glance, the audio looked the same accross the different monitors (there are schematics for the 14 and 2 different versions of schematcis for the 20.)

Here you go. The schematics pages for the monitors (and PCBs for that matter) are too big to fit on a normal size scanner. So, to get the entire page scanned I had to do 4 scans per page, and each pdf file is broken up into 4 scan files. The order of the files is (1) Top left of page (2) Top right of page (3) Bottom left of page (4) Bottom right of page.

I just did a cap kit on this very same 14" Sanyo monitor in my Nintendo mini, and I used Bob Roberts' 20 EZ cap kit with the audio board kit. Every cap matched up to my 14" chassis with the exception of one, which I tested and left in the chassis.

Thanks! I had been holding off because I wasn't sure if it would work.

I just asked Bob to see if he has a kit for the EZW. Smalltown, do you know which capacitor didn't match? What is the value of the one I would need?

Sweet! Thanks! I didn't realize that Atari used the Sanyo EZ and EZW monitors! Did the ones they used have the video inversion circuit included?

Yes. There is actually room on the Nintendo Sanyo chassis to add the needed parts right on the board.

Atari used the Sanyo in a few games, I know my Dig Dug has one.

So the Atari version has the video inversion circuit? I am guessing that Dig Dug didn't output inverted video?

Correct - Dig Dug does not output inverted video. No non-Nintendo game does. The monitor Atari shipped ran on 120v and took standard video. I forget if they had the off-board inverter module added in or if the monitor chassis was set up to take standard video directly. I will have to look.

The cap that did not match from the 20" kit was C410. On the 20", it's a 100uf 160volt, but on the 14" model, C410 is a 47uf 160v.

Also, on the 20" model, C472 is a 100uf 160v. That cap doesn't exist on the 14", but on my 14", C462 is a 100uf 160v, so I changed it with that one.

I double checked the capacitance rating on the rest of the caps in the 20" kit, and I believe the rest of the caps matched up with what was already in my original chassis, so that should do it.

So you can get the 20" kit, and substitute one 47uf 160v cap for one of the 100uf 160v caps, and you should be good to go.

So using those Atari manuals won't be entirely the same as a Nintendo EZW (120v and inverted video)?

Thanks! I appreciate it! I will see if Bob can swap out the caps for the ones I will need. Otherwise I will just order them from Mouser the next time I order from them.
