Is this a legit way to wire a Gauntlet board, bypassing the aux. sound board?

I found a resource for wiring a Gauntlet board using a standard switching power supply, in place of the +15v/-15v aux. board, but it seems a bit haphazard.

Here is the curious bit:

"The Gauntlet pinouts on spies.com show +15VDC and -15VDC on pins 6 and 9. I just hook these up to +12 and -5VDC respectively, as you can see in the table above. They also show +SENSE on pin 2, and -SENSE on pin 5. You can leave these unconnected, but they are connected to the +5V and GROUND rails on the board, so I chose to connect them to +5V and GROUND as well."

I'm tempted to try it, but is this safe? -5 and -15 seem no where near each other. :)

I rigged up my Gauntlet boards years ago so that I could play it in my jamma cab. I have everything mounted to a board to make it easy to setup. I will dig it out and look at it on Sunday and see if I can figure anything out that helps you if no one else has an answer.

Hey, thanks for taking a peek! I was wondering if any folks with tech knowledge could speculate on the large gap between -5 and -15.

But if you've been running it for a while without damage, and you notice there's no audio board in there, please let me know. It looks like the audio board is regulating the +15v / -15v. And if you're using just the straight switching PSU, that would be comforting to know.

I'm curious, did you rig up some kind of separate audio amp? I bought an unbranded ebay audio amp kit (super cheap) which I'm planning to try.

Also...

I just noticed last night Garagerot reproduced these boards!! What an amazing project. So that's an option. Although at the moment, I'd like to get this Gauntlet running without investing more $$.

Also, his don't appear to have voltage regulators onboard. I'm sure those heatsinked things are separate mono amp chips. Perhaps I read the wiring diagram wrong. :hmmmm2:

Edit, just checked the schematic. The audio board does not regulate, it just bumps 12 to 15 with a full bridge rectifier and smooths the ripple with 4 giant caps.
