They're closing the local flea market by me and the arcade tech that works there is selling off all of his cabs, he has a couple good ones in there but I'm mostly concerned with the Outrun and Galaga cabs, he wants $400 for Outrun and $450 for Galaga, are those fair prices?

If condition is nice that is reasonable. If games are working its not bad. Price any parts needed. Sideart/Kick art for Galaga are always on sale from Vic here. CPO for Galaga is around $35-$45 screen printed, T-Moulding $10. For the Outrun parts will be harder to source. There has been a lot of interest in Outrun lately as it is a cool game and many of us here on KLOV seem to want one. I have a mini myself on the way.

They aren't great prices but they do fall in the range. It really depends on the condition of the machines. Out Run in particular can be tricky as it can be a pricey game to fix up, as parts are not easy to come by.

If working and in reasonable shape, I wouldn't hesitate at those prices unless you didn't enjoy the games themselves.

Both cabs are working, I've seen them run/played them a bit, screens are in great shape and such. According to the seller the galaga needs new side art, the cab also looks a lil funky, its shorter than the full size cab and it doesnt look like any cabaret I've seen... The outrun is in decent shape, everything is there and he says he swapped out the 19 inch screen for a 20 something incher, and enabled some sort of 3 player mode (what?)

either way if the guy does 300-350 for either I'm almost certain I'm going for it

Take some pictures and post them here, some of those things you mentioned don't sound right at all.

good price for galaga but too high for Outrun by $150 - $200

edit: didn't read the descriptions...sounds fishy and not worth the prices

Upright outrun, and either way those cabs have to go before the market closes, so I might just give it time

I actually think a really nice Out Run would bring more than a really nice Galaga. Mine brought around $650 on ebay 5 years ago and it was only maybe an 8.5 (super minty but no Ferrari symbol and no map overlay).

might be a regional thing...decent galaga's rarely pop up (and are a favorite of the 60in1'ers) while Outruns seem to pop up every day in the $200 - $400 zone.

Galaga with an ArcadeSD or Arcadeshop PCB is nice. Since it is the same cab essentially as Ms. Pac its a good deal. Outruns pop up for $200 - $500 but I don't think they are as common working as people think. Just not mainstream like Pacs, DK, etc.

Nice games cheap are a bonus but any dedicated game under $500 if mint you really have to do a double take before passing. There are far less out there then 10 years ago. Lots of $50-$200 jammatized junkers are out there but not dedicated classics unhacked.

Its not 1985 or even 1995 where I could still walk into an ops ware house and get $50-$100 dedicated vids and pins more less with minor repairs needed. It just does not happen anymore.

Heck I got a Spiderman pin for $75 missing 1 board mint back then and free games left and right dedicated such as Berzerk, Gorf, Major Havoc, Black Widow, Lunar Lander, etc. Some deals are out there but its a lot of work.

That'll have to be on the weekend, the flea markets only open sat/sun

Anyway yea I figured this "collecting a few cabs" idea was gonna be expensive, although I did luck out with my playchoice, it was sub-100 and it had 10 decent games in it from the get go

And I'd love to find a decent dedicated galaga cab and throw that arcadesd thing into it if it didn't look like it would need some serious surgery to get it in there, I'd want to keep the cab and internals as close to stock as possible

No such thing as 3 player mode or even 2 player for that matter. Pull down the dash and check the springs and gears before you buy it. Does the shaker motor work?
