is there any use for old 386 486 computer motherboards?

i have a good amount of these things just wondering if the chips off the boards are good for anything in the arcade world. before i sell them off..

Just the mother boards? If anything there are some sold school tools (EPROM Programmers etc) that need a PC with an ISA slot. That's why I keep a couple around.

yea i have jsut the mother boards with CPU's and most have some 72 pin ram. but i didn't ahve the room for all the computer cases and everytign so i stripded them down

Recycling. :p

Someone had to say it. I'd be really hard pressed to find a use for them personally, I've got more post-Pentium3 era stuff lying around than I know what to do with as-is..I can't imagine keeping stuff that old around as anything more than a curiosity..

Like a Pentium II CPU cartridge, lol.

I think I have a pair of p2-400 slot 1 cpus around here somewhere.

I've been lookin for a good 486 mobo. One with VLB slots and what not.

Did that thing seem high tech back then or what! Haha.
That actually brings up good memories of building my P2/3Dfx machine and firing up Mechwarrior 2 with the Titanium patch.

Like the OP, I also stockpiled stuff for a while and after building 3 MAME cabs as well as PC's for the wife and kid with leftover parts, I realized most of it was taking up more space than it was worth.

I gave away and ditched much of it, and decided to limit myself to one large Rubbermaid tote for PC parts and a cardboard box for miscellaneous parts like mounting brackets and fans.

You think your Commodore 64 is really neato
What kinda chip you got in there, a Dorito?
You're usin' a 286? Don't make me laugh
Your Windows boots up in what, a day and a half?
You could back up your whole hard drive on a floppy diskette
You're the biggest joke on the Internet
Your database is a disaster
You're waxin' your modem, tryin' to make it go faster
Hey fella, I bet you're still livin' in your parents' cellar
Downloadin' pictures of Sarah Michelle Gellar
And postin' "Me too!" like some brain-dead AOL-er
I should do the world a favor and cap you like Old Yeller
You're just about as useless as jpegs to Hellen Keller

LMFAO gotta love weird al

I'm always interested in old computer boards... especially ones with the plug-in DIP RAM on them.

Windows 3.1 runs quite nicely on a 486DX2-50 with 16MB of RAM.

Back in the day 4MB was pretty standard and not many people maxed them out.

Most of my old computers got recycle to other people. The old move it down the food chain But I do keep one or two old PC kicking around. Old eprom burners, Jtag units. Serial programmers for pagers and the other werid little things I deal with from time to time.

What to do with old computer? I made sprinkler systems out of them.. Alarm clocks that open the windows and slowly ramp up the lights. Made fancy door bell where you can leave a message. Some old computers got dedicated to Doom/heretic/Diablo arcade machines. Did you know with 3 computer you can play doom with a front view, right view and left view not bad for a 486 dx2 80 LOL.
