is there an atari 2600 game you still enjoy today?

(* I never really understood the entire objective. Did you, Phet? I'd love for you to comment on this. The oasis' were cool. With that cool "revitalizing" sound. Dodging the Sons of Anubis and the rocks hurled at you was cool. I got really far in the game, several times. I actually made to a temple and laid the gifts there. Made some cool bartering noises and then the screen went beige, as in saying game was over! :) So I guess I made it to the end?!? :dontknow: It always intrigued me about if it was the real ending or not. )

Probably some others, but these stand out from memory.

I sorta treated it like Pitfall and just kept playing. Maybe there was an end and maybe there wasn't. I just played til I either got bored or was forced to quit so we could play Centipede, which was a good 2600 port for us in 1983.

Nice! So it wasnt just me that got to that "this will never end and I've just wasted about :40mins to an hour on a game that will never end", huh?!? I do feel better about this now.

Activison was the best for most played titles in my house.

River Raid
Barnstorming
Stampede
Freeway
Chopper Command
Kaboom
Pitfall

Others games that got heavy play were:

Haunted House
Bezerk
Superman
Circus Atari
Super Breakout

I totally forgot about Stampede. I loved that game! Barnstorming was another one I liked a lot. Any love for the Atari game Pigs in Space?

I play Thrust Platinum mostly when I have the system out. I am also glad to see someone else put Subterranea on their list, fantastic game, and very underrated.

My guess is that since it's a fairly rare game a lot of people have never heard of it. When it comes to Imagic games, it's one of my favorites, I enjoy it more than Demon Attack or Atlantis. I was very surprised by it the first time I played it. Same thing with Frankenstein's Monster - it's the only Data Age worth playing and it makes up for all of the other crap they made.

I also forgot to mention Solaris. It's such an impressive game for the 2600 and it's a lot of fun. I've thought that this would make a great arcade game with a yoke controller.

when you compare the first games for the 2600 to some of the last games like solaris, its quite amazing what they were able to do with the hardware.

Its hard to not think about many of the old games. Pretty much any activision and most imagic game were interesting. But I think combat, air sea battle, pitfall, chopper command, kaboom and river raid always got the most play..

Kaboom
River Raid
Demon Attack
Video Pinball

...in that order

I recall Frogger and Berzerk being pretty solid 2600 titles but I prefer to play them on a real machine.

Arcade ports:

Space Invaders
Defender

There were a lot of games I really liked for various reasons, but Atari 2600's Millipede was the one game I remember playing and saying, "Wow - this really feels like the arcade version." Especially with the Trak-Ball.

Combat.

Hey Phet, you do know they made a Space Wars for it, right? I never had it BITD but would like to check it out now... Anyone here ever play the 2600 port? And did you like it, if so?

I should check teh eBay for one really quick...

A couple months ago, I got the Atari collection for PS2. The only game I played on it (out of 60+ ) was Yar's Revenge. xD

With my fairly-recent purchase of an Atari 7800 and about 30 or so games (No 2600 yet, though), I think, without any sentimental attachments to the carts, I'd have to say that Berzerk and Yars' Revenge are great titles that are still very fun to play.

Kaboom!

Fishing Derby

Combat

Dragon Fire

Warlords

I actually thought I was the only one who enjoyed Fishing Derby. I'm pleased to be proven wrong. That game was so addicting. I was always trying to best my previous high score, and when the shark would keep getting faster it would become so hectic and exciting.... it's still one of the best fishing games I've seen
