is there an atari 2600 game you still enjoy today?

I still play the 2600 all the time. My kids love it too, they mostly play Pitfall! and Q*Bert.

For me though some of the titles I enjoy the most are:

Star Raiders
River Raid
Empire Strikes Back
Haunted House
Frankenstein's Monster
Subterranea
Laser Gates
Save Mary
Tunnel Runner
Circus Atari

For homebrews one of my favorites has to be Fall Down. It's one you need two people for but it's a blast.

Adventure
Atlantis
Cosmic Ark
Sea Quest
Dragster
Yars Revenge
Raiders of the Lost Ark
and a bunch of others

Keystone Kapers
Demon Attack
Cosmic Ark
Plaque Attack
Sea Quest
Dragster
Star Raiders
Kaboom
berzerk
Spider fighter (i think is name)
Frogs n Flys
plus more i think of right now

I play Thrust Platinum mostly when I have the system out. I am also glad to see someone else put Subterranea on their list, fantastic game, and very underrated.

I played a ton of Atari games (Yes even E.T. which in this case stands for Exceptional Turd) since the parents bought me like a crap-ton of them as a kid.

I don't play any of these games anymore, not even on emulators simply because I'm just not that fond of them.Once the NES came out and I finally got one,the ol' Atari immediately found it's way into the closet.

I still remember my utter disappointment at how freaking terrible Pac-Man looked. And I was very much hoping for and expecting to play a perfect arcade port and instead got a steaming pile of crap instead! What a foolish little kid I was.

can't argue with you there. that being said, i fired up the ole 2600 pac man yesterday and the sounds and gameplay were so awful but we couldn't help get excited thinking about how you had to be put on a waiting list and the local sears would call you when it came in (60 dollars plus tax let's not forget) and literally waiting on the porch for my friend's dad to come back from sears (we couldn't afford shit like that) and following him in the house like the pied piper to the atari vcs. bad or not it was an awesome time for me! kid's today don't appriciate things like that and will never feel that angst!

Someone already mentioned it, but Chopper Command.

Could be a total coincidence, but as a naive kid I wrote Activision a letter asking why they never made home versions of actual arcade games, specifically Defender.

I got a letter back from them, basically telling me that they tried to come up with original ideas and not "copy" games from the arcade. A few months later, Chopper Command came out. I have the letter on Activision letterhead somewhere in a junk box. I need to dig it out and scan it.

Yes you do. That would be sweet. That's why I also loved Sea Quest. Basically Chopper Command underwater, with the cool 'Air Supply' factor adding a sense of urgency.

Activison was the best for most played titles in my house.

River Raid
Barnstorming
Stampede
Freeway
Chopper Command
Kaboom
Pitfall

Others games that got heavy play were:

Haunted House
Bezerk
Superman
Circus Atari
Super Breakout
*Riddle of the Sphinx
(* I never really understood the entire objective. Did you, Phet? I'd love for you to comment on this. The oasis' were cool. With that cool "revitalizing" sound. Dodging the Sons of Anubis and the rocks hurled at you was cool. I got really far in the game, several times. I actually made to a temple and laid the gifts there. Made some cool bartering noises and then the screen went beige, as in saying game was over! :) So I guess I made it to the end?!? :dontknow: It always intrigued me about if it was the real ending or not. )

Probably some others, but these stand out from memory.
