just going to point out before someone else does in a less diplomatic way that the proper expression is "couldn't care less".

"I could care less" was originally a shortened form of something along the lines of the following sentence:

"I suppose I could care less ... but I don't see how."
 
If true, it doesn't make sense the way it's used in shortened form. "Couldn't care less" is what makes sense in shortened form.

The two sayings, "couldn't care less" and "could care less" are both valid. They are related to each other, but one is not an erroneous version of the other.

Generally, "could care less" followed "couldn't care less" in a conversation:

Joe: It looks like it might rain.
John: I couldn't care less.
Bill: I suppose I could care less ... but I don't see how.
