IS there allot more collectors who isnt on the forums.

just going to point out before someone else does in a less diplomatic way that the proper expression is "couldn't care less".

Well, since you said something, I'll add that the word "blackberry" when speaking of the personal digital internet and phone device, is capitalized, and "proofread" is one word.

Also, both of you failed to capitalize the first word of your sentence.

In a sense, you had a grammar-Nazi fail.

I really could care less since half the time I post I do it on my blackberry and I don't proof read it

I wish people didn't think this way.

On a related note, I was at Target last night and had a 10% off coupon. The register wasn't accepting it so they wanted to enter it manually but they couldn't calculate 10% of $270 so they asked me if I had a calculator on my phone so I could calculate it for them.:001_ssad:

Edit: And "they" consisted of 3 ladies, so not one of the 3 knew how to calculate 10% in their head.

i rarely capitalize when posting on-line except with proper names. it's a habit i picked up years and years ago on old school bbses when i was a member of the "cool kids club" where everyone did something different with their posting styles to stand out. not that i'm saying it's right, just it's a habit with more than 20 years of reinforcement.

That's terrible.

Equally terrible is that the teachers' unions are out in force protesting because they want taxes raised so we can pay them more - and for what? 90% of public high school graduates are fucking morons.

Give the guy and his thread a break. What does this have to do with anything here. Are we going to talk politics on this thread as well?

I got the guy's point about collectors and Klov. Many of the old school guys don't even use computers, so fortunately for them, they are not on here or they would get torn apart for their capitalization and punctuation.

Sorry if I misspelled anything or did not use proper English, I am talking arcades, not taking a test.

I was just kidding around. Also, why did you select my post? I wasn't the only one. Someone else actually went through a point system and assigned a score!

But anyway, my misplaced political comment was in response to an adult working a cash register that cannot figure out what 10% of something is. And today I saw teacher-protesters out in force in my neighborhood...so the stars just aligned for such a comment...

I think the dude that started the thread seems like a good guy...

Sorry M1A, didn't mean to call you out. I actually meant my overall "give the guy a break.." comment to several folks - seems kind of shitty to pick at the dudes grammar to such a degree. Not trying to be the post police- just sayin. But I guess there is a point where people need to proofread what they do a bit before putting it out there for all to see.

The teacher thing struck a cord with me I guess since many of my close friends and family are public school teachers (and great ones) and they do get paid pretty bad for what they do for our kids every day (or at least during the school year :).

Somehow we strayed from talking about whether most collectors are on Klov. IMO it seems like there are tons of people that are not on here. I bought my first game about 9 years ago and never even posted anything on Klov till earlier this year. I have been using the Klov site for years, but never posted on the Forum until this year. Seems like most the people I have come across are not on here or are definitely not active on the forum, rather only use the lists of games to check things out from time to time.

Of all the collectors I've dealt with in real life in terms of purchases/sales, only djdns (assuming djdns on eBay is the same djdns as on these forums), who I bought my Dig Dug from, was a registered member. The guy I got my Pole Position from said he knew about it but didn't post, the guy I got my Space Invaders from was apparently a MAME dev and knew that KLOV existed, but the others were clueless. I have met Neotopher and SaminVa at LordAuric's arcade party, but those four total are the only KLOVers I've worked with in the hobby. And considering how many collectors I have worked with, that's not a very good sign.

But there's only a 10% chance of that. Can the Target ladies figure that one out?

In defense of teachers, we're under an incredible amount of stress right now caused by the government. The profession of teaching has drastically changed over the past 10 years. I do believe that there's a lot of bad teachers out there but there's a lot of good ones too. I can show you a bunch of second-language fifth-graders who can dissect a sentence like no one's business. Whether they take this into their next level of education -- I don't know but hope so.

No offense, but this is an extreme pet peeve of mine. Anyone who types like an uneducated, lazy boob consistently loses more of my respect with every post. Pretty soon I stop reading their posts all together. After that, I start to discount them as humans. Sound harsh? Maybe, but I'm an English minor and I just can't help but equate consistently poor grammar and punctuation with a lack of intelligence. First Impressions and all that. If that offends you then I am deaplly sory, I diidt meen too.

Exactly. It's the extreme brutalizing of the English language that bugs me. The occasional mistake, lack of caps, etc. doesn't bother me really. And I'm no English major. :)

I will shoulder the blame on this one. I referenced it first, in post #4. However, I also made sure to reference his question before I did so.

But I have to say this - the only reason I even clicked on the thread in the first place was because the subject line was so bad... :D

Yes, this thread has gotten way off topic, and I apologize to kjeffery for starting the whole meltdown process. But at the same time, when you're eating lunch with friends, how long do you stay on the exact same subject? Conversations steer and chase rabbits. It's simply an element of human communication. And kjeffery seems to be ok with our silliness...?

On the positive side, though, he will get a lot more hits and interest in his thread the longer we keep bumping it with our inane comments.

The one other guy in town who I know that collects is not on the forums although he should be. I've referred to KLOV a number of times in coversations with him and he is always amazed at the games and parts I get on here because his online searching is pretty much limited to ebay. In fact yesterday I stopped by to check out his new Return of the Jedi cab and borrow a degausser and he pulled up his email to show me some pics that a collector in Virginia sent him of his collection... turns out it was dj dns.

I believe one of the biggest arcade collectors in the country, Mike Snider, is not on KLOV. He's been referenced many times here and has an incredible collection.

Most people I end up buying games from are not KLOV members. But again, most of them are just "people" who happened to have a game or three. The game broke, or the kids stopped playing it so they sold it.

Now as far as "collectors" go, I would guess that less than half are members here, and many of them not actively posting.

I would not be collecting if it wasn't for KLOV. I am 37 and consider myself a bit young to be collecting classics. I have always been a computer nerd, internet geek, whatever. Now, when the many classic collectors are older than I, grew up pre-internet, you begin to see why so many are not on here.

I also clicked on this thread because of the horrendous grammar in the title :)

My fiancee is a teacher and she sure as hell doesn't get paid enough to put up with all the bullshit from the kids, their parents, and their bosses.I would never want to be a teacher.

Back to the main subject of this thread.I didn't know about klov until a few years ago even though I'd been collecting games on and off for a number of years.I'm glad I found this place though.Lots of friendly people and helpful information.

I wouldn't want to be a teacher, either. But as with most jobs, you know what you are getting before going in...

Also, most jobs suck ass and most people don't get paid enough. Nobody said a teacher's job had to be any different. Oh, except for teachers and their unions. And other people who aren't teachers whose jobs suck ass can't go stand at a street corner with a picket sign, scream like a baby, refuse to go to work, and demand more money. They'd be fired in a heartbeat if they tried. Which is exactly what should be done with every Capistrano district teacher standing with a sign today.

Education budgets are the most bloated budgets there are in this country, and look what we get from it. If it were my way, we'd shut down the public school system entirely, drop property taxes entirely, and let private schools handle education. I realize that is very simplistic, but that is what I'd like to see happen in a nutshell.

In order to stay on topic, I wonder how many teachers there are that collect games, and how many there are that are on KLOV and how many are not part of the "is there allot more collectors who isnt on the forums."

There are a lot of collectors that are not on Klov. I can't say I blame them. In fact, some of the most hardcore collectors I know of never post here. This place is equally about Mame and multis and figuring out new ways to fuck up classics. Sometimes I wonder why I came back to the forums after being away for many years. It aint like it used to be. So to answer the question, yes, there are a lot more collectors out there. The guys on here that are the most hard core probably post the least to be honest.
