is there a write up for adding switcher to an Atari power supply?

i have a crystal castles cocktail that will be a 48-in-1 soon enough. i was going to build my own power center, but figured that it was already started with the atari power supply. I would like to eliminate big blue and wire up the switcher.

is there a write up for doing so anywhere? it seems as if there are so many extra wires for the A/R board and stuff that it is confusing me when i compare it to Bob roberts switcher write up.

well sine your going to do a 48 n 1
and you want to eliminate the big blue
i would say the best way is to take everything out (except the monitor)
put in jamma wiring (will need it for the new board anyway) and a switcher, just as you see in Bob Roberts site.

i will be putting in a jamma harness, but i figure why spend the extra money on parts that i pretty much have in there. i did realize that i have a Shuuz pcb in a crystal castle cab and there is a switcher tied into the power supply, so i will have to dig out from around the cab to get in the back.

as i look at bob roberts site for the atari ac wiring, i may be able to figure it out. i was getting confused by all of the additional wires from the transformer, but they are all the same - just different colors for different feeds (right?)

Yes, I've mentioned before how to do this.

It's actually very simple. Just leave the regular power brick in there (you can take big blue, the fuses, and the rectifier out if you want to use them elsewhere) and just leave the main line fuse and the transformer in the brick, as you'll probably need the transformer to isolate your monitor power.

Then wire your switcher's power into the three prong connector on the power brick. This is the power to your marquee light, and is turned on/off with the cabs regular power switch.

Then just hook up all the connectors as your normally would. The service outlet will have power if you need it, the monitor and marquee will have power (as will your switcher), and there will be a line filter and fuse still in the brick that will do their job.

Of course, your start buttons won't blink anymore (did CC buttons blink?), and you may have to wire your coin door lights to your switcher, but that's really all there is to it...

Not yet ;)

thanks for the tip mod... i was really over thinking it. all i needed to do was unplug the ar board from the powersupply and use the AC lines from the light to the switcher. since there are no marquee lights in a cocktail, i dont even have to worry about running any extra wires.
