Is there a trick to getting a Midway coin door to accept tokens?

I just bought 4 Any Coin mechs to try in 4 of my Midway games (Space Invaders, Pacman, Ms Pacman, and Gorf). I have about 500 used .984 tokens and 500 new, slightly thinner .984 tokens. I'm having limited success with the tokens making it through the coin switch slot without getting stuck. One side of Ms Pac works flawlessly, while the other side won't let the token get past the switch. Comparing both sides, the switch actuators appear to have the exact same bends. What am I missing? I have a party coming up in two weeks and I had hoped to have the games working on tokens so I don't have to worry about little hands going in the coin door to coin up. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

P.S. I also have two new token mechs that do the same thing, so I'm sure it's an issue with the coin switch itself.

I put token mechs in my Sea Wolf, which I believe has the same Midway door, and I found a similar issue.

I haven't used the Any Coin mech (though it seems like a great device), but I found that the token mechs were very sensitive to being level in order to work correctly. In my case, the right mech was not registering tokens when the door was shut. But strangely it would work when the door was swung open, even though there is no intentional electrical or mechanical link that would cause the door to behave differently (e.g. a lockout, sensor, or anything similar).

When I looked more closely, I saw that the door was not seated properly into the routed-out cavity that is cut into the front of the cab, due to the tolerances on the door and the cavity, and maybe the cab swelling over time. The door was cocked and not sitting level when it was shut. I loosened the door and adjusted it to be more level, and that fixed it.

I had this issue, but in the opposite way. I got all new "any coin" mechs and decided to use pennies as my coin of choice. The pennies would slip right by the switch activator without triggering it. Had to adjust the wire. When I decided to go tokens, I had issues with larger coins getting stuck because I had moved the activator over. You likely just have to find the sweet spot on the activator through trial and error.

I just made rectangular chutes from cardboard and put em in place of the mechs, I've yet to have a problem unless my 2 year old decides to see how many tokens she can jam in there before I catch her.
