Is there a Gottlieb (Q*Bert, Krull, etc) FAQ?

Send me a pm with your questions. I have worked on quite a few of these sounds boards and power supplys.
I have the gottlieb troubleshooting guide for qbert that might help. It should be pretty much the same hardware as mad planets....not sure about krull.
 
There is a sound board flowchart out there and I know I came across a small guide with things to check for problem areas. Offhand I can't recall the link to it though. :(
 
These power supplys are so simple you dont really need a flowchart for them. The schematics are pretty straight forward. In most cases its either the power transistors or the zener diode. The 100uf cap is almost always toast since it sits next to the heatsink. There are also a few resistors that are burned up and should be upped in wattage. A couple are non critical (1.8kΩ) since they just drop the voltage to power indicator LED's.

I have (re)learned some about the Gottlieb PCBs. Like:
1) The main PCB, some sockets can take a RAM or EPROM. You just need to change some straps or jumpers.
2) The audio board can use 2716s or a 2732. Some straps need to be changed.

Q*Bert & Mad Planets conversion is just a ROM swap. MP does take an additional 6116 RAM.

Krull has some EPROMs in RAM locations so some straps (and jumpers?) need to be changed in order to swap between Krull and QBert/MP.

This is about the pinball applications of that board, but AFAIK it's the same one in Q*Bert, with different ROMs.
