I have a couple of these Sharp/Kortek K7000 clones. Both will be needing some minor repairs I am going to start soon. Both of them have the small cooling fans over the flyback . Just wondering if these are really necessary. Neither of mine work.

As a rule of thumb, you can test for short periods of time without fans present, but you want the fans to be there and working if the system will be running for more than a few minutes. I don't see any reason why your clones would be any different.

OK, thanks. Just wanted to double check. I think I have a few old pc power supplies I can rob from.

Generally manufacturers of anything hate to spend unneccesary money on parts that are not neccesary so you can bet that it is needed !

I was thinking the opposite haha. I noticed all the shitty chassis come with those fans, I think it's a feature they include to distract you from the garbage quality.

Nah, it's more "we used the shittiest components where efficiency wasn't even considered in the design, and as a result our clone runs a HELL of a lot hotter so we gotta cool it somehow".
