Color Vector? Awesome
Star Trek? Sweet Theme
CPO? Coolest one I have ever seen

But is the game fun? I never hear anyone talk about game play. Are the vector graphics cooler than Star Wars? All I ever hear is the same lame jokes about the G08 monitor. If you own the game, post a pic and tell me how much fun this game really is. Mbott, all you need to do is a post a pic.

For about 3 hours. You'll find yourself playing the whole game in the upper right hand corner - the radar screen and not even enjoying the great vector graphics.

If they left the shot off the radar screen; it would force your eyes back to the main window. Adding a complex and fun area to it.

So a little like Defender, eh? That kinda sucks. Sounds like it would be better to be watching someone else play then.

Bingo. I have to admit, I was really digging this game at CAX. And I hate Star Trek. But this poster nailed it, you end up spending most of your time looking at the radar. Go with Space Fury instead.

Friend of mine used to own one. Kinda cool. That's about it IMO. They could've done better by adding voices that sounded more like the original cast. Plus the game is hampered with some type of problem. They're known to break down consistantly for some reason. Can't remember for sure.

I'm going to have to say no. In Defender (and Stargate for that matter) you glance up at the radar, but spend most of your time looking at the regular screen. It is the opposite for Star Trek.

I know people who look exclusively at the radar while playing. I don't, but then again, I'm terrible at the game. I kicked ass on the 2600 version, but that was with a joystick and 1 button.

Great theme....crappy game play that's too dependant on radar.

I agree with SavIt.. Space Fury would be better, it has speech too and a cool looking alien.

I don't have a pic handy. However, I own an upright.

There is a big difference in the feel of the game between the upright and the captain's chair (sitdown). If I had the space I'd have the captain's chair instead of the upright. A few years ago people were practically giving away captain's chairs that were missing the monitor, but now they seem to have picked up in price.

Gameplay is okay. There is a heads up display and an overhead map on the screen. Many players, including myself, play the game by only looking at the map and not the heads up display. So most of the screen space is wasted with something you never look at, and so you never really see the detail of the ships, explosions, space stations; etc. It was not all that well designed. However, you can play the game using the heads up display mostly, with the map as a secondary view. It's just a harder game that way, but is also a better gaming experince because you are seeing everything.

Mostly the game is blasting Klingon ships, docking with space stations to load up on shields, fuel and photons, and an occasional bonus round which involves shooting a mine laying ship and avoiding the mines.

There is now a multi sega kit for this game which adds Zektor, Eliminator, Space Fury and Tac Scan. I think this greatly enhances the machine. However, I recall that the since the controls are set up differently in the captains chair there may be an issue with using it in this configuration. Plus, Tac Scan uses a verticle positioned monitor so unless you can re-orient the monitor, that game is unplayable. From what I've read, the Star Trek control configuation is the best one for the multi-game so I would get a Star Trek before those other games if I was going the multi route.

The G08 I have is burn free and I had Arcadecup fix it a few years ago. Never had a problem since. I bought my ST without the monitor and was lucky to find one burn free and hardly used on Ebay. I usually fix my own monitors but this particular one can be challenging. They are supposedly harder to come by now so if you are getting this game, I'd try to get one that already has the monitor and it's working. Arcadecup doesn't work on this monitor anymore.

The edge connectors in the card cage get dirty from time to time and need to be cleaned.

Well, Phet, I like the game. I'm a Star Trek fan, though, so that probably has a lot to do with it. Yeah, you can play the game by primarily looking at the tactical display (upper right) but you can make it more challenging by focusing on the viewscreen more. Plus, the photons are just so kick ass!

I'll have to give that a try. Maybe that is why I can't break 200,000 on Stargate...

I used to love this game BTID and have thought about adding it alot, but i end up always decide against it.

Cool factor is a 10 (especially the sit down). I fondly remember the captains chair as a kid no other game experience like that. Very collectible in terms of the theme. I do like the gameplay - it was quite advanced for its time, and the sound effects really add to the experience. Its also got a good degree of ramping up difficulty so one can jump in and get rewarded early with increased challenge later.

The ruling out factor for me is i dont think its going to appeal to my kids they are more into "cartoon" like games, and SW is the vector that beats it for the "adult" slots. if space wasnt an issue i would have one. The other factor is the technical one - i hear too much about break downs but havent done enough research to know what that could be. I guess SW and tempests which i have owned/own break down and the vectors gave me their share of problems, but there is a wealth of info on them to guide me through.

The Star Trek seems more of a mystery to me (again i havent searched, not needing to!).

Wow great pictures, this is a game i hope to have one day! Phet buy the game if you don't like it i am sure it would be easy to trade off or sell. It would look great in your Arcade with the cool theme you have going on as well, IMHO.

Being a big Star Trek fan I love everything about the game. I have 3 of them. The cockpit, dedicated upright and one in an Asteroids cabinet. What's even better I put a Vector Labs multi game in the Asteroids Star Trek and I can play all the SEGA vector games. I love the kit so much I ordered another. Not sure if I'll put it in the cockpit or dedicated upright.

Whoa, awesome. I think I like the Asteroids version the best. That CPO is killer.

Space Fury rocks...

...and I recently discovered that Zektor rocks as well!
