I'm curious if a plain SF Rush can be converted to a SF Rush 2049 of some flavor. Is it a hard drive, PIC, and ROM change like it is to go to the Rock, or were there more hardware changes?

Thanks!
Gary

It's totally different hardware, mobo, etc... though it's probably possible to convert if you have enough of the guts (I don't know whether steering wheel, pedals, shifter, etc are compatible). IIRC at CAX they have a set of 2049 TEs in the old style cab (they may be prototypes).

Thanks for the info.

I asked the owner (klov'er?) and he said something about them just being plain ole' Rush cabs. As if he installed the hardware inside some cheaper Rush cabs he had found. That was my interpretation anyways. :p

I would def go that route to get 2049 going on the cheap.

Many a rush 2049's got converted to need for speed and others(They made custom kits to go into them).. Not sure how the kits worked, but they might have had to pull all out/allmost all of the wiring and boards. so you might find enough parts to do a conversion.

You can email ken and TJ about the rush cabs converted into 2049. Pretty sure atari just grabbed the regular rush cabs, gutted them a put all the guts of rush 2049 into them as test cabs. Don't think there were ever any plans to offer them as upgrade kits..

sill, just about everything is different. probably best to pick on something like crusin world or exotica. Both cabinets are probably closer to 2049 than regular rush..

Gas, brake and steering pots are all the same. The feedback motors are different though. I think the Rush motor is 20VDC and the 2049 motor is 90VDC.

And as mentioned above the boards are totally different.

Rush the rock uses a 90volt dc motor

Any idea why Rush used 20V and Rock used 90V? Do they both work the same? I'm getting a Rush soon and planning to convert to Rock.

rush to rush the rock is just a rom, hdd, and security change. Rush to rush 2049 is a huge difference.

as for why they changed motors, probably had to do with what midway/rest of the industry designed/used. Feedback in hard drivin series and rush is much better than crusin and rush 2049.

And oddly enough the Happ control mech that everyone else uses was co-designed by Atari.

Maybe I had my games backwards but I'm pretty sure that Rush and Rush2049 use different motors.

BTW, I think that the 4 sound ROMs are 16bit. I dont recall if all or only one or two of them gets changed though.
