I just went out to localarcade.com and the browser came back saying the DNS entry does not exist. This was off the link that Bing gave me.

Does anybody know what's up with them?

Thanks,

ken

I haven't been able to get on there for quite a while.

Isn't most of the art there mirrored somewhere else? Like vectorlib or something? Ask Zorg, he might know...

The hosting service is listed as dreamhost.com and if you use dreamhost's whois service, it has no listing for localarcade.com. So either it is moving hosts or it is gone. I saw a post about it being down about a month ago, not sure if it was down the whole time. I think there is a site in Europe that Zorg points folks too.

Weird, check the NS entries for the domain:

Domain servers in listed order:
NS1.SUSPENDED-FOR.SPAM-AND-ABUSE.COM
NS2.SUSPENDED-FOR.SPAM-AND-ABUSE.COM

SirWoogie over at BYOAC posted a while back about the problem. Don't remember the details but it had something to do with GoDaddy mistakenly marking the domain as a spam abuser or something like that. He was apparently trying to get that corrected but having difficulty getting through to the relevant person. I think he's generally quite busy or else has limited interest in working on this kind of stuff because it seems like stuff he's working on generally takes a long time.

In other words, it's probably safe to assume it will be back, but don't hold your breath in the meantime.

:bebored:Thanks. I wasn't looking for anything in particular. I was just bored waiting for a process to finish and there is always something cool to look at out there art wise. :lazy2:

I hope they get it straightened out, or else somebody else takes up the mantle. The artwork was a great resource.

Just like the product it services...

It was left to rot and finally shut down.

What - no one else mirrored that site and its contents by now? It's been going up and down for a few years now.

folks,

vectorlib only mirors the vector files from AAL. it also contains some vector files that where not uploaded to AAL.

AAL was left abandoned by the current maintainer....

I have backuped some of the bitmap files (not all) and will be setting up a bitmap repository.

What a shame and I am really sorry to hear about this. I would be glad to mirror any content on my server for the future preservation of all these machines.

Please contact me here so we can make arrangements.

Mad props to you, good sir!

I don't think it was abandoned. This was discussed a few weeks ago when it went down.
SirWoogie on the "build your own arcade controls" said that this was not a payment or other glitch that caused it to go down. Somehow they were labeled as a Spam sender. He said the spam messages that were reported had the "localarcade web address" in the message. But they were not sent from their server, and was trying to explain to GoDaddy (I think) that localarcade did not send the messages. Last I saw he was having problems talking to a person that could correct the problem. So I believe that this will get fixed just taking some time.

Perhaps he should just switch registrars and not mess with them if they won't fix it. What a mess and yet I still get plenty of spam.

I hear an echo. ;)
