Is it worth dealing with this cabinet?

As you can see the bottom front of the cabinet has been spraypainted with some horrible texture paint. I called and they told me it was done "to remove blemishes". Bleah.

They want $400 firm. This seems too high to me, considering the painted cabinet. I am wondering what it would take to restore the cabinet to its original state. Is there some way to remove spraypaint without destroying the surface underneath... I thought the wood there was melamine coated, is that correct?

Should I even be considering this?

Thanks for any input.

P.S. the monitor glass is not shattered... apparently it's just a weird reflection in the photo.

If it were me I would want a fairly nice cabinet for $400 bones. That one is going to take a lot of time to get it nice. I say move on, another cabinet will come up.

It's worth considering but +1 to what kjeffrey said, not for anywhere near $400.

The original cabinet had vinyl on the front and sides. If they painted on the vinyl, it should be easy to remove the paint. You'd probably want to add new vinyl or repaint the whole cab anyway since it looks so craptastic right now. That's easy but still a lot of work and new vinyl isn't cheap.

No way that is worth $400. They are not very serious about "Wanting it gone". I can see why they are going out of business...

Take this for what it's worth. I just bought a Roadblaster at a local auction and paid $125.00 for it. Here are it's pro/cons.

Pro

Completely working game. Steering and pedal both very responsive.
Very nice (but not perfect steering wheel).
Very clean cab.

Cons

Mid-level monitor burn.
Original art work (such as it was) is gone or covered up.
T-molding may or may not be original.
Door locks are missing.

Let me guess...Diamondback Billards?

That machine...and the one next to it...have been on Phoenix Craigslist for months. There's a reason it hasn't moved yet. I don't know if you have a special spot in your heart for Roadblasters, but if not, I'd pass. Heck, the guy selling the minty looking Karate Champ on PHX CL for $300 would be a much better purchase. He's been trying to sell for months too, but he continues to back down the price, and he has a great looking cab.

Outside of that, a $400 DK3 was put up for sale a couple of days ago...a convert from an original DK cab. That would also be a better deal...if it's still around.

You'll never be able to buy it from this business for what it's really worth- about $200.

The RoadBlasters kit could possibly fetch that much.

If that was a MM, PP, RR or even IJ, I would say yes get it and deal with it.. But not for a road blasters..

I would hold out for a better cab with one of the better games. you can probably buy a RB kit for $150 or less. The other kits are $300+

Thanks everyone for all the responses!

And yes zoggynog, it is being sold by Diamondback Billiards.

I'm not obsessed with Roadblasters, though I do really like the game. I'm more interested in the fact that it is a System 1 cabinet. I like all the System 1 games, but especially Marble Madness, which seems to be difficult to find as a complete game. If it was a MM, I would have bought it already.

I did call and try to talk them down in price, but it was hopeless. They want to "get what they paid for it".

I guess I'll hold off...

Haha... they reposted the game on CL. Still $400, still "we want it gone!"

I wonder how long this will go on.
