my gyruss cabinet at the bottom front corners are almost gone. is it possible to cut a section out and replace it with new wood? i REALLLLY dont want to make new sides just to fix that.

If there's not a huge section missing, Bondo works great for making new corners. I use masking tape and cardboard to make sort of a 'mold' in the shape I want, fill with Bondo, then remove the cardboard/tape just before the Bondo sets. It can be sanded, routed/Dremeled to make the t-molding channel, painted, and is very durable.

If it is a big area that needs to be replaced, you can cut it out and replace with a new piece of wood of the same thickness. Many others here have done it.. search the Restoration Showcase forum.

Short answer: Yes. I've seen pics of some restorations here where people amputate and entire bottom of the cab and rebuild.

Whether its worth it is entirerly your call.
