I received a very nice Robotron glass bezel reproduction from Arcade Shop but when I went to install it... it's too wide. :(

Compared to the original... it's about 1/8" wider which makes it a couple nut hairs too wide to fit in the cabinet.

If I could somehow shave a little bit off, it'd fit... but I don't want to ruin the darn thing in the process. I have an email in to Steven to see what he wants to do but I figured I'd ask here for advice.

I looked online for how to do it and I'm thinking my best bet is to take it to a glass shop. BUT, I want to hear back from Steven first to see what he says.

Anybody ever shaved down a bezel before? If so, how? And how'd it turn out?

TIA, :beerchug:

Its tempered i would think it would shatter, unless theres some sort of wet sanding or something i dont know about.Ive tried to have tempered glass cut and they say they cant do it.

If it's tempered glass, which IIRC they all were, you cannot shave it down at all. It will shatter completely and turn into a nice pile of tiny little cubes of glass.

I wonder why it doesnt fit? Your cab a oddball conversion?

Nope, it's a standard Robotron cabinet. A few weeks ago I bought an overlay from him and it fit fine with no need to cut it down.

Oh well... seems like this will have to go back...

Really? You guys would sand down and paint your cabinet to fit a reproduction bezel?

Man you are waaayyy more dedicated to the hobby than me. That thought would have never crossed my mind to be honest. :dunno:

your original bezel wasn't that bad in the first place IMO

sucks the repro is slightly to large :(

I worry about printing or getting a repro "1up at XXX,000pts" sticker as it is for mine

i would use a small grinder with a thin disc and cut a thin groove line on one side of you cab
then slip you glass in the grove as you lay it flat to the side. then paint the cut to what ever color the cab is in that part but paint befor placing the glass

Hell no I wouldn't do that!

Hmmmm, this may work if I remove one of the control panel rests/guides.

Of all the things mentioned, I may try this if Steven doesn't have any words of wisdom.

Oh, and Broodwich... it doesn't look that bad until you take it out to clean it. The first time I did that I removed a bunch of red paint since it's all bubbled. If you look at it just right, you can see where *all* the red is in the process of letting go of the glass. That and there are a ton of wear spots where it was directly touching the wood.
