Is it Possible to Rebuild a World Cup Soccer 94 Soccer Ball Gear Box?

Hello fellow KLOV'ers I just recently got a WCS 94 that is in pretty good shape but after playing about 20 games the soccer ball stopped spinning, I could hear the motor humming but no spin on the ball. After taking the ball motor assembly out and looking at the pinion gear attached to the motor I notice that it was pretty much stripped. After further investigation into the gear box I notice that one of spur gears (the one that touches the pinion gear on the motor) was kind of worn down. Now I understood why the ball stopped spinning, the spur gear was no longer touching the pinion gear which is attached to the motor. I looked online and I can buy the full assembly (motor and gear box) for about $80 shipped which is fine but it seems like kind of a waste if the gear box gears and the motor pinion gear can be replaced for less. So I guess my questions are, has anybody else with a WCS 94 had this problem and were you able to purchase the gear set for the gear box and the pinion gear for the motor and if so where did you get them and what are their part numbers? I've looked at a bunch of online pinball part places and just keep seeing the full assembly for sale, no gears for a rebuild. Or am i just spinning my wheels and should just say F' it and buy the full assembly?

Thanks in advance for all help and advice.

Spence

Thanks Shardian, I really appreciate your help. I took your advice and went looking for gears. After about a week of online searching and describing my gears I gave up. At this point all the time and effort I put into searching was wasted and it would be easier just to buy the whole assembly. So i did just that, bought a new assembly (motor and gearbox) $82 shipped. Now I am waiting for my part to be delivered. But I will keep my old gear box and motor and if I ever find suitable replacement gears I will take note on where I got them from, part numbers, etc and re-post here with the solution for others who may have the same problem. The search will continue but for now I just want my ball to spin again. Thanks again :)

Thanks again shardian. I got my part (full assembly) in the mail yesterday and installed it last night, just in time for my New Years Ever Party guests to play. My ball now spins perfectly.

mine is starting to have similar problems.
eighty bucks is a bit pricey for a motor & gearbox but the game
is worth it. i'm just gonna get a new one.

if the machine really made it sixteen years on one motor, then
a replacement should last a long time to come now that the
game has entered "retirement."

Multi Products made all the Williams motors (IIRC).

I'm pretty sure the owner (Mark Patzke) will still rebuild them for you but I can't comment on price.

yeah! i was looking at that but gave up after a while and ordered from steve young about twenty minutes ago. no big deal, i just want it back to perfect as soon as possible.
if it was a $300 pin, it'd be a different story.

game plays fine without it, but it sure speeds the ball from exiting the jet bumper area.

The gearbox assembly is stamped with the named "MULTIPRODUCTS CO." I found this website http://www.multiproducts.com/ so I emailed them and they said that they did not supply those motors or gearboxes anymore and that there was a website that they did at one time supply them too and to check with that site to see if they had any available. So they were no help. I am still looking for those gears because there has to be a way to replace them. And like you yaggy i just wanted my WCS 100% working again. Now my WCS is in super clean condition and plays perfectly. I just scored almost 4 billion the other night. The top score on my machine is over 7 billion set by the previous owner. I am getting close. :)

Congrats on the fix, glad there's still some options out there even if you have to buy the whole thing :) My best score is mid 4bil as well. 7bil is attainable though, just need to put some marathon games in, or get lucky haha
