Is it possible for an average Joe to buy a Wheel of Fortune slot (IGT)?

Never see them on eBay or elsewhere. Too new? Only to casinos & not private parties?

not sold

the word I have heard is IGT destroys the game specific chips in these machines upon decommissioning as to not allow them in the private sector. I have heard rumors of a few out there but I don't know.

There is a Monte Carlo machine (Spin and Win) on eBay for 1100.

I almost bought it as its very close to a WOF. Has the full wheel and topper. Only issue is its over 7 feel tall.

From what I remember Merv Griffin productions only leased the casino's the rights to use the machines so they weren't allowed to sell them afterwards since they technically didn't own them which is why they are supposed to be destroyed (or at least anything WOF specific) after use.

Allegedly

This makes sense.

I'm glad I have a few of these handhelds, then. Might be the closest I'll get to owning one for awhile...

You can buy any slot machine but it may not be legal to own depending on what state you live in. Like someone mentioned any dealer playing by the rules will not ship to certain states. It varies from state to state so do some research and get something in writing. On most states that they are legal to own they have to be 25 years or older. Also you cannot let someone walk away with winnings in hand and you cannot profit from it. There's alot of grey areas with this and its hard to get a straight answer. Basically if it is legal where you live it has to be for entertainment only.
The link Ken posted is your best bet to find machines and parts. Newlifegames is the KLOV for slot machines.

I have never seen that one

I don't know anything about that one, but I do know the one that has the wheel that spins is not legal to own because the copyright holder only leases them and requires the rom chips back and them to be dismantled or returned, so you can occasionally find a non working machine for sale missing the programming chips. I'm not sure what the deal is with this one maybe someone illegally copied the chips? It happens just like the pepsi HVV vending machine pepsi owns 99.9% of them and won't sell them until they are over 10 years old yet they get posted on e-bay occasionally but are illegal to own because they are stolen pepsi does actually go after some of them. The only reason I say 99.9 % is because when vendo closed one of their California plants they sold off some of the machines to employees I only know this because I have one setting in my garage with a clean serial number and story verified from vendo. Only one I know of that is legal for me to own. However I bought this 7 years ago so they will becoming on the market very soon.
