Hello
New to the group and starting to buy the games I grew up playing. My question is I might be able to buy a game about an hour from me and the only way for me to move it is in the back of a SUV. The game would be on its back for the ride of about 1 to 1.5 hours. How bad is this for the game? Should I do it.

Thanks for your help

Just make sure that everything inside, especially things like the monitor, pcbs, etc are securely bolted in so they don't move around when you lay the game on its back.

Moving

Just make sure that everything inside, especially things like the monitor, pcbs, etc are securely bolted in so they don't move around when you lay the game on its back.

Also. Before you plug the game in again, take the back door off and look to see if everything is in place and a quarter, token, screw, etc. is not laying on something that will cause a short. Depending on what cab it is. Remove the coin box so it is not bouncing around during transit.

95% of cabinets yes

5% I wouldn't

After you move 40-50 games, you'll know which is which.

you mean like this? Just drove it 2 hrs like this. Works fine.

yes it ok but make sure everything is bolted and screwed down beforehand.

Youd be suprised hoew many ops over te years just threw stuff baqck into games after repairs.

i have lost a few good monitors and one pcb set due to improper mounting..

so like i said yeah its fine, but maks sure everythings glued screwed and bolted down beforehand.

Yep, it's ok as others have said. Check for loose items first, the monitor, power brick, boards, etc are all secure before loading. Check again before powering up.

I do it all the time.

Have fun!

You should check the game whenever you move it on its back or upright. don't just check the monitor if its mounted, check the monitor boards too..

When you put a game on its back, don't forget about the power cord. You can tear it up pretty good. Put it inside the cab if you can. reminds you too check inside before you power it up..

some cabinets like asteroids are cut in a way that they could break the rear window of the cab of your truck if it moves, so keep that in mind.

don't forget the coin box. in defender and some other games, it can fall out of place and cause some damage.

Thanks for all the advice...Got the game home and now going over all and cleaning..it was a great looking Tempest.... I did not want to wait afraid it would be gone.

Thanks again

I lay a folded up thick comforter/blanket in the back of the pick-up before loading them to protect against sudden shocks; I've never had a problem.

As others have said, there is no problem moving them on their backs (or sides). We do it all the time. As long as all the internal parts are secured, then you're fine.

And on the other end, always check over everything before plugging it in. Never know where a quarter or a screw might wind up.

Once you get started collecting games, you'll find all kinds of junk in them. Quarters, tokens, assorted other coins, screws, washers, blown fuses, candy wrappers, and similar debris are almost always rattling around in the bottom of the cabinets. Occasionally you'll find more interesting things too. I've only ever found the "mediocre" things in my games - tools, parts for other games, a roll of electrical tape, empty cans, a toy car, redemption tickets, etc. But I once repaired a Gorf for a guy and we found an old Playboy from the 80's in there. And if you search the forums here, there are several threads all about the funny things found in games - sometimes some outlandish things wind up in there.

So, basically - you have to check every game before moving it (if it's not locked), and definitely before plugging it in. Never know what could be clunking around in there.

Tempest is a hell of a good way to kick off your collection! Congrats! :)

Every game (except for cocktails of course) I've hauled I've laid on it's side with a heavy moving pad underneath. Like others have said before, check for loose parts first before. Only 1 issue so far, but I was lucky -- Picked up an Astro Fighter and the monitor chassis was not bolted down at all. No problems when I got home and plugged it in, lucky indeed. Always good to have some extra teflon leg levelers on hand before picking up a game. Before you take it out of the truck it's a great time to replace them.

Don't ever move a Sundance game on its back because you will possibly get crud in the neck of the monitor that will short it out. This can't, apparently, be repaired. It's unlikely that this is the game you are moving but just in case....

I've moved all 6 pickup-games that way. Never had an issue. Always checked to make sure there was nothing just bouncing around, but unless the cab is half disassembled I don't think it should be a huge issue.
