Is it a Tron Mini Cab or some sort of bootleg?

I have someone that wants to donate this to the arcade. I just need to fix it. Did they make TRON in a mini cabinet or is this a custom build? I'm going to pick it up no matter what. I was just curious if anyone had any info on it?

The current owner says that it never worked. He had it for 3 years in storage but no skill in fixing electronics. I wonder what i'm going to have to do to get it working again... How much do you think one goes for. I'm just curious so I don't go over budget with replacement parts.

$500-$800 is a safe estimate, I think.

Definitely a real, dedicated Tron mini. If you cannot fix it, please get it to someone that can. Too good of a game to be sitting, nonworking.

honestly, I dislike tron... but if people want to play it then I got to make it happen. I'm just worried how bad the damage is going to be when I get it.

No offense meant by this but you should probably pass on non-working games.

Between them needing time, space, and money... they may not be worth it in the long run to you.

If they are giving it to you free then take it and trade it and trade it off for something working. Final Fight, Contra, Black Tiger or basically random 86-90 jamma title that you could easily trade it for would out earn that ten to one.

Congrats and good luck on the restore man, I love these Midway cabarets! If you do decide to pass it on and would be willing to ship, I would be interested in it.

going to start with replacing the power supply, as suggested by alejandromad.

It worked out very well for my Q*Bert. Then I'll start from there and with a little bit of help from my friends, we should get Tron up and running in no time. I already have people begging to play it!

MCR cabinets running on switchers = not a good idea.

I had one of those adapters running in a Spy Hunter and the audio was terrible... major static... replaced it with a stock linear supply and it all went away. Evidently this is a pretty well known problem with running MCR cabs with a switcher. I am not 100% sure if Tron is affected... perhaps others can chime in.

You can get a switcher kit from Arcadeshop for this fix. Also clip the battery off the power supply so it does not leak on boards.

Michael

Does clipping the battery off a TRON/MCR power supply do anything besides cause you to lose high-score data? In other words, do you have to apply any fix, or can you just snip it and let it be?

I might have to do this with the one in my Journey soon...

I don't get all the Tron hate as I had fun with it when I was younger...espc. the light cycle game.(wich I consider the best mini-game on it with the other being the MPC cone)

I believe the Tron hate is coming because a lot of collectors don't really like the game all that much, and they get basically zero play outside the collector scene. Put one in your arcade and watch no one play it.
