I have a shot at a Defender. Its definitely not my favorite in the Williams lineup, that would be a tossup between Robotron and Joust. Just curious if this would make a good Multi-Williams. Thoughts?

are you just gauging interest?

lmao, sorry I have a demented sense of humor.

to the point,

I am using a joust, and waiting for aaron71446(hope I didn't mess up the numbers)
to finish with his williams-multigame metal control panels.

I always thought defender would be a good candidate, though you would have to make the control panel house the joystick for 8 way. but you have the buttons in the right place for the toughest games to start.

i've always thought that any converted and painted Williams cab would be the best as then you can add multi-Williams artwork without feeling too guilty. barring that, a Joust or Stargate seem the best as the MW artwork fit pretty well with those.

unfortunately, don't think there's a MW CPO that looks fairly original to Defender.

I have a MultiWilliams Defender with a Jrok Board in it, and I love it. Its a little harder finding a good CPO. But I kept it all original except for the Control Panel. The like defender cab, and thats why I chose it for my multiWilliams.

I used a Defender Cab Also - Its for sale in the for sale section if you want to see what it looks like - They make a oversized control panel overlay at arcade shop thats made for a defender multi williams. I used wico 8 ways and everything looks great - I also purchased the stencils from this old game to give it the authentic williams feel you can search this forum for the williams stencils they look awesome in my opinion.

I am with Tron Guy, at one point I thought I would like a converted Defender Style cab to use, but I figured out the the converted, former Robotron cabinet would work better with the available parts. I too am waiting for aaron71446 to make the panels available.

I did not read that thread but is the CP aaron71446 is building going to work with the CPO from phoenix arcade? is it going to have studs for mounting the joysticks? If so I might have to pick one up if they are price range as the ones from arcadeshop

Has anyone done a repro speaker grill for williams games? I really need one for my joust

sorry for being off topic

FWIW don't forget about Rikitiki and his Williams Muti stencils. Also a plug for him - he talked about designing a new CPO "no word on that as of late."
I think any Williams cab is a great option for a multi. I'm also a jrok fan and own one. Really like it a lot. Not a fan of cherry swicthes though - it took using a more squared off edge on a custom metal CP to make the leaf switches fit but leaf switches are the bomb.
One of these days I'm going to redo the joysticks so the dust covers are underneath the panel. ;)
Also - not sure if this guy is still selling but you could check.

The one I'm looking at is original and looks like its in good shape. If I end up getting it I would just leave the artwork the way it is, put a multi CP and jrok PCB and call it done.

Same here. I just swapped the defender control panel and used an adapter to plug into the standard Defender wiring harness, keeps the machine 100% original and just a case of unplugging things if I ever want to go back.

I think that Defender is the easiest to multi-WMS as the control panel is easy to make if you can cut, or sand, an angled edge. I cut my own and drilled out the holes for button & joysticks.

Defenders do make good Multi-Williams cabs.

About 6 months ago I picked up a Defender cab that had been converted into a Rush N Attack. I have a few crappy pics taken from my phone of the finished Multi-Williams conversion. I really suck when it comes to documenting my work. :(

The cabinet was sanded down, painted black and vinyl was applied to the front and sides. The bezel came from the ArcadeShop, the side art from Phoenix Arcade and the marquee and CPO from Arcade Overlays. I really wish I had better pics as this really turn out well.

As was mentioned it's easy to fabricate a defender cp. I will eventually be making a defender Multi williams. I just plan on making a quick disconnect at the cp that will allow me to swap in a cp that will work for defender and stargate and a second one that will work for the other games. Most of the time it will probably be set up to play the games other than defender and stargate since I own a dedicated defender but on the occasions I want to play some stargate I can swap out the cp easily.

I love my Defender Multi. Everything looks original except the CPO. Im hoping to have one made defender style:cool:

Do you play Defender and Stargate with that? Looks like it'd be difficult due to the stick height. I also don't like how far away the Reverse button is on all the overlays.
I guess they did this because the mounting plate of the 8 way is so much wider than a 2 way, but I'd rather cut the plate and keep the distance correct.

Good thread. I have been thinking about making my defender a multi. I have two CP's so I won't have to worry about not being able to make it a dedicated cab agian. Thanks for posting this it may just get me to take the plunge.

I love my Defender WMG... the control panel is a larger than Robotron/Joust so it gives a bit more room to work with...

I'm redoing the CPO artwork... I don't care for it on the Defender.

I agree that any old painted over Williams cab works just fine.

I used a Bubbles that was jamma'd and had Combatribes in it:

Im also expermineting with the idea for my own of using a Cloak and Dagger defender cp which you can get from QuarterArcade its a metal panel and room for a 2way stick over where the 1 and 2 players are which would require yet another cpo version :D
