I have a converted SEGA Astrofighter cabinet and have access to 85% of the parts to restore the machine. Is it worth it? It would constitute a full tear down, new side art, new CPO, getting working boards, make a wiring harness, etc. I have access to the boards, marquee, CPO, and cabinet at the moment. LMK if you own one, have played one, are looking for one.

I have an astro fighter cocktail and do find it pretty fun to play. There are like 5 waves of attackers and you must shoot each group completely otherwise you move up the screen closer to the attackers. You also have limited fuel and must get to the boss to refuel. It is a fast pace game and the attackers keep coming--faster and with more firepower each level.

However, it often doesn't get turned on regularly and i never see any demand for these games--cocktails seem to sell for $100 or less working. I have never seen an upright. Likely not going to get your $$ out if you restore it to sell.

I own one (UR) and plan on restoring it as soon as I fix the harness issues. I have 2 boarsets 1 of which I know for sure worked until the monitor went out. The harness was hacked to hell and back and I can't seem to get it to work again...probably power supply issue. Anyway. Great game. I bought some NOS side art for wayyy too much money... but I'm hoping to get this machine working again soon! I bet you could count everyone that's restored an Astro Fighter with one hand. BTW - if you run across a harness - please let me know. Would love to find one instead of having to make one.
