is anyone planning to get out of the hobby this year?

Have any of you had enough of the constant craigslist searches? Have you had it up to here looking for that elusive warehouse to raid? Tired of finding a game you really want at a good price and being the first one to contact the seller, only to have it turn into an auction? Or have any other factors finally caused you to want to regain your sanity and throw in the towel?

If so share it here!

Sometimes I poke my head into the storage area and think..
all this is MINE?
and sometimes, I think
ALL THIS is mine!
Perhaps my new years resolution should be (again) to not get any more
games until I get the number of non-working / projects under 5 (instead of 10 or 20!)

Happy New Year!

Nah, but if I have a new year's resolution game wise, it would be to finally aquire a Star Wars, even if I need to give up some games to make room and finance the purchase.

Happy New Year!

I am.
A bar closed here locally(o'harleys) for the locals, a friend purchased it to renovate for a new business. I built a building on the back of my house and transplanted the bar to there.
I had two games that I have had since 99 or so and I put them in there.
I fell into the same trap we all do with the searches and the quick atm runs to get just one more game. Well my bar which was my pride and joy has so many games in various states of disrepair that I cant even walk in there, let alone enjoy it.
I have not played a game since forever, it has become more about getting the next game than enjoying what I got.
All that being said, I will still look for that special deal, and still be a part of this forum.
But I will be selling the majority of my games, and spending a little more time enjoying what I have, rather than chasing the next deal.

NEVARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!

althoygh my resolution is to get my effing area 51 going and sell it this year heh, didnt make it last year.. oh and to clean my garage so ic an at least walk out there... its scary

well as soon as a read you are constantly searching CL I HAD to do a quick check on kijiji to make sure i was not missing anything so far this year ;)

I am actually really looking forward to this year in the hobby i am going to get my house lifted and get a proper basement done. which means finally a gameroom of my own.

i am thinking i am going to restore my machines and sell them off one at a time, and just keep a revolving inventory of games. I have no space, most of my games are not accessible, it looks more like a storage unit than an arcade!

Yeah I really need to break that CL habit for sure and just finish what I have. Speaking of which I might be buying a Space Duel today from CL....GOD HELP ME!! :p One of my goals this year though is to get 3 of my Trons ready for sale when the movie hits the big screen! :D

I started this post because I realized that I have not met most of my original goals for the hobby...which was to have more working games and not a big pile of parts and cabinets taking up space. I read alot of posts about the hobby taking over collectors lives as I was getting into collecting and always said to myself, no not going to happen to me. Famous last words I suppose. Well fast forward to the current day and I still check CL multiple times a day and haven't touched some of my projects in quite awhile.
I have however stopped making purchases I can't afford at the moment. No more justifying "oh the cab is too great of a deal to pass up!". I've been in the hobby long enough now to know that If i see something I want, even if I miss out on that particular opportunity, I can probably find the same thing later on. I too am going to dedicate this year to finishing up the projects I have on hand, to sell off those that I can live without and to clear out the parts I know that I will never use so they can hopefully go on to bring other cabinets to life.

I don't plan to buy any this year due to lack of funds. I quit looking at cl months ago due to my lack of impulse control. I have a couple of projects to either sell or get working, but that will have to wait until it gets warmer in the garage.

It got to the point that I had to plan to sell everything I bought because I couldn't afford to buy it to begin with. I tried to become a seller to pay for the games and maybe make some cash, but I hated it. I will leave the flipping to those of you who enjoy that. It kills the hobby for me; I would just rather not buy any until I can afford it.

never

Well maybe someday i'll get out of it, but I'm having fun right now and that is what it is about.

I have stopped checking CL and do not plan on making any purchases until my current stuff is finished off and running to my satisfaction.

The Pinball is fully functional now, the MAME cab is 98% done and then I'm on to my Tron restoration I've been wanting to do for the past few years.

After that, I may get another game, or sell off one of my machines and go from there. Space is somewhat limited for me, even with a house.
