Is anyone else not excited for the AC/DC pin?

Don't get me wrong, I like the band and even have a few of their tapes around (yes, I said tapes), but I am not interested in them being the theme for a pin. I've seen the Rolling Stones pin and I wasn't a fan (admittedly I have yet to get a chance to play it though). I'd play either if I saw them on location, but I'm not going to lengths to track one down in the wild like I did for Tron and Transformers.

Am I the only one like this?

Eh, I think the "not excited about XXX" will apply to everyone at some point. I am not rushing out to go play this title, but it looks half decent. Could it be a mega expensive flop? Yep, but I won't know until I give it fair playtime.

Art is horrible, IMO, and the fact that the mini-pf underneath isn't an actual pinball-sized PF, but another Stewie/Donkey isolated thingy is very "meh" upon inital consideration. I would have to see it in action to be sure, but looks like three spot targets and possibly a loop? Doesn't really leave a whole lot there.

It could still be a fun player, I liked the RS pin when I played it, so who knows until we actually get hands on it for sure, but if I was looking to get a NIB pin, that wouldn't be it. For the same price, I can get my grail, LOTR new in box. :p

I own everything AC/DC has released, I've seen them in concert a couple of times, they are arguably my favorite band. And I'm not excited by the pin. When the Pro model's pictures and info was released, any interest I had immediately disappeared. Part of it was the artwork, part of it was the pricing, part of it is how stripped down the Pro model is. However, after seeing the pics and information about the Premium and LE models, I'm now optimistic and a little interested. I won't be buying one, but it may be a game I'd eventually consider picking up.

There will never be a single pin that I'd drop 7 grand on. I'd rather spend that much on a few 2k games and a couple of vids.

More realistically, I'd buy a nice used Jeep. As much as I love pins, that much value is just not there for me.

I am excited about the pin but it really PMO when Stern has to nickel and dime everyone to get all the bells and whistles on the machine, wish they would make one machine with everything and charge one competitive price, there is no reason why any new Stern title should cost over 5K.

I am not that excited for multiple reasons. #1, the price. Stern is really of their rocker with this one and I am continually shocked that people will throw down that kind of money for games that have regressed over the years. #2 has to do directly with #1. Because of the price, no op will buy one to put on route here, and even if they do, it will be the new pro version, which is basically the old home version with how stripped down they have become. I will get very few opportunities to play the game like it was meant to be played. Thank God we have a very large home pinball enthusiasts crowd here, or otherwise it would be none.

The Twin Cities area is a huge pinball market, but the last several Stern releases have been very telling. Before CSI, most every Stern release could be found in a minimum of half a dozen locations, if not more. CSI and after is a different story...

CSI - 1 (now off route so none now)
24 - 2
NBA - 0
BBH - 2
IM - 2
Avatar Pro - 2
TRS Pro - 1
Tron Pro - 2
Transformers Pro - 1

Keep in mind that 50% of the BBH, IM, Avatar and Tron pins belong to one location who is more of a private owner and has all his games at his bowling alley. If Stern keeps this up, all the pins will be in private residencies where the public has no opportunity to enjoy them.

My problems with the game... I like the theme and the band, but..

* I am turned off by Stern's multi-tiered approach towards creating games with different functionality. If you're going to make a different game, call it a different name. Even Gottlieb called their single-player/multiplayer/add-a-ball versions different names. Stern now has several different versions of the same named-game and it's confusing and annoying.

* The premium prices charged for special editions of their new games don't seem to justify what little extra they're adding.

* Their audio system is in MONO. Who would do a rock-and-roll-themed pinball game with mono sound? I felt the same way about TRS.

* People are still having problems with reliability and quality control. If you're paying $7k for a game, the ball shouldn't get stuck, or parts shouldn't fall off the first day you play it.

* The games still look cheap IMO.. the toys and their animation seem to be afterthoughts.

* There's no innovation that I can see. Stern is still using 20+ year old technology and doesn't seem to care. They seem to be flagrantly exploiting the ever-diminishing pinball enthusiast base by cranking out the same games over and over with different graphics attached.

I await Greg's post to tell me I'm completely wrong. ; )

Do you really think Stern could keep in business if they were only selling to private parties? I would think they would be forced to close, which would be horrible for the pindustry...

No...I don't think they could stay in business, which is why I think they are doing what they are doing now. They are raping the pinball enthusiast for all they can get with their 6 tier pricing and option system while they can. That will only last so long and that will be it. They may continue on for a bit after that making "LE" only edition runs at $10,000 a pop, but they will be gone for all intents and purposes unless they make some changes. After burning bridges with ops, the home enthusiast is all they have left to destory. Just a couple of short years ago, Gary Stern said we didn't matter, now we are all that is keeping him afloat for the time being. Pretty ironic.

Nah, I pretty much agree with you...lol....and yet I'm on the fence. I love AC/DC and have always wanted an AC/DC pin, I love Steve and Lyman.....if I do buy this game, it will defintely be a "I love you guys but this is the last hurrah" purchase. No more NIB games for me, at these prices, on principal.

Yep bought SM, IM, TRON LE and TFLE Autobots all NIB, and I am not interested in this machine. Even if I was the pricing is getting out of this world and it would stop me from buying. You would think with the advancements in technology that the price to make these things would go down and not up.

Just my 0.02
