Is A Sinistar Joystick A Good Option For ArcadeSD Board?

I have an ArcadeSD board and a very nice Sinistar joystick that I don't know what to do with.

I was thinking about making a custom control panel with a Sinistar CPO and Sinistar joystick and buttons just like the original.

Would this be a good setup to play the ArcadeSD board with?

I know the ArcadeSD will automatically adapt to whichever game you are playing. I'm just wondering if playing a game that uses a 2/4/8 way joystick, if it will feel funny with the Sinistar joystick...

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks.

I say try it. I have ArcadeSD and was planning on using an Arch Rivals 49way. I couldn't figure out how to connect the Jamma harness to the wide edge connector of the joystick. But I'm sure it's pretty easy. I hope to figure it out soon, so I can play sinister the right way. For now, I'm using a wico.

What is the difference between the Sinistar Joystick and the Arch Rivals joystick besides one has a red knob and one has an orange knob?

Nothing. I don't think. I just don't know how to connect it to the Jamma harness I have.

Correct, these are the same joystick except for the color of the ball.

they are the same. I think someone made red replacement shafts. So maybe there are some out there.

The light blue ones are bubbles but its only 8 way. Plus its probably worth 4x a sinister stick. pigskin uses dark blue ones. I think there is another game that uses dark blue. I cant remember the name, but I think its rare.

Sorry, not idea what arcade sd works with. But if it can work with a happ 49 way, that might be a better(cheaper) way to go.

From ArcadeSD manual:

Note: Requires the Happ/Atari/Midway style 49-Way joystick, not compatible with the older Williams versions.

Williams joysticks use an inverse binary output pattern compared with the Happ/Atari ones.

You will need to wire up a pair of 7404 Hex Inverter chips on the data lines to invert the binary logic so that the ArcadeSD will work with them.

Basically you will need to turn a 1001 0111 output into a 0110 1000 input for it to go the right directions.

There are other posts on this subject in the ArcadeSD thread and at least one web site showing how to do it.

The other way to do it is to program an eprom with output patterns for each input and wire the joystick to the Address lines of the eprom and then the Data output lines to the inputs of the ArcadeSD on the jamma harness. Same effect as a hex inverter, just takes more knowledge.
