Is 131vac to a monitor too high?

I'm rebuilding an Arch Rivals and testing voltages. I measure 131vac at the molex connectors that run to the monitor (of which I'm in the middle of repairing).

Does this seem a bit high? I usually look for 110-120vac.

Thanks,

Marc

I am going to use a Williams power brick to answer your question as an example.

Yes, that is high. It should be roughly 120vac.

The Williams power brick has a input selectable transformer to compensate for power inconsistencies when they were made. Back then some wall outlets put out 100vac, 110vac, 120vac.(just an example the numbers may be off a little) These three sets of lugs were originally wired up for 110vac input which bumped the output to 120vac. Shifting the wiring to the other lugs corrected the output to 120vac accordingly to compensate for the wall input voltage. It is not uncommon to see a Williams power brick putting out 130vac today. Shifting the wiring to the 120vac input lugs will correct for the problem that you are having.

The scat for the power brick that you are using should tell you which input lugs to shift your wiring to in order to get a 120vac output.

I have seen some monitors run just fine with 130 out of the 120 in. And I've had a few burn up the voltage regulators (and a few other pieces) with the same voltages....
