Ironman Ivan Stewart's Super Off Road Track Pak PCB SOLD

This was a spare copy that backed up my machine. It was tested working about 6 years ago, but the machine is long since sold, so I can't retest at this time, so selling as untested. The battery does not appear to be leaking. Has the track pak roms. These don't seem to come up for sale very often but it is untested.

Asking $140 shipped

SOLD

Sale pending to 1st response.
2 others waiting if original falls through

Whoever buys it BEST cut that battery off immediately. I can't believe someone would leave that on there!

They're Lithium... I haven't had one leak on any of my Leland boards, and they're all original (and still working!). I keep an eye on them, but don't really worry much about them (unlike NiCd or Alkaline batteries).

I second that. Have 5 boards with those batteries and they all work. Seen many more without any leakage also.

Why take a chance? I don't know if the articles below are applicable but I keep the battery remotely connected to my board just in case. 25 cents worth of wire and 5 minutes time to potentially save a 200-300 board... I'll do that all day long.

They're not... one talks about the fire dangers of rechargeable lithium ion batteries (which these aren't), and the other talks about kids swallowing coin cell batteries (which these aren't... and if you're REALLY worried about that, a kid is MUCH more likely to swallow a remotely mounted battery than an entire Super Off Road boardset). :p

The original batteries are Tadiran, which even currently still touts themselves as being the longest lasting LiSOCL2, offering models INTENDED for 40 year operating life: http://www.tadiranbat.com/ . This page specifically talks about their proven long life: http://www.tadiranbat.com/is-a-40-year-battery-life-a-reality.html .
Back in the mid 80's, millions of bobbin-type LiSOCl2 batteries were installed in the first generation of wireless meter transmitter units (MTUs) used in AMI/AMR gas and water utility metering applications. Twenty-eight years later, when these older MTUs were starting to be replaced by newer generation technology, samples of those original bobbin-type LiSOCl2 cells were tested and still found to have a significant amount of unused capacity, even after nearly three decades in the field.

And this page talks about their low self discharge: http://www.tadiranbat.com/beware-of-imitators.html
For example, Tadiran bobbin-type LiSOCl2 batteries feature an annual self-discharge rate of 0.7% per year, so after 30 years, our battery can retain nearly 80% of its original capacity.

So, you're welcome to be cautious and remotely mount the battery if it helps you sleep at night... but I don't think the rest of us are living on the edge by leaving them installed.

Rep for the info.

I'll mark my calendar to check the batteries in 2028 and report back.

So if I have it correct you can't play the original levels on on a Track pak version and vice versa?
I'm just trying to figure out if my board has a problem or it's operating correctly.

It's seems strange that Leland would design the track pak version w out the originals.

Correct. You either have Track Pack (with the additional car selection and the different levels) or you have the original levels (the original game).

The track pack was a rom swap upgrade (I'm not sure if it also came as standalone). I suspect they didn't retain access to the old levels because of space issues on the board. The hardware probably didn't have the ability to do that. I'm only guessing though.

Keep in mind back in the day arcades were looking to refresh product for more quarters. Not give people unlimited options for (what is now) home play.

Sheesh... I can't believe I didn't buy this in 2018 - kicking myself... so does anyone have info on who might sell the rom swap? I e never played the Track Pack version and now I'm more curious...

You could run it in mame just to see it...

But my understanding is that the ROM swap has some special security chip (or chips) involved and therefore it can't be easily duplicated. I never verified that for a fact myself but have read it a few times on various posts here.

Occasionally I have seen a set of swap chips come up on here or eBay.

I dont see them come up very often but I'll keep looking. I remember this when it came up in 2018 and I hesitated. Still upset with myself.

I keep hoping some random genius makes some nos chips or something.

I've played it. Not too much different obviously but it's nice to new tracks. Not a fan of losing the old ones. There are some super fun ones on the original game.
