IPB FunHouse repro playfield - needs more CC or not?

Just picked up a IPB repro FunHouse playfield. I want to just get started on transferring everything over to it and get this machine back together, but am I going to hell if I don't put more clearcoat on the playfield first? Or is it one of those "it will never see enough use in your home environment to get damaged that badly" deals?

PF

crap I would of paid that for one, do they have any more? I just called them last week and they didnt say anything about having any of them left???

The first generation IPB repro FH playfields were not drilled/dimpled. The newer IPB ones are. Does your FH playfield say "Diamond Plate" near the right flipper area? If so you have a 2nd generation repro playfield. While it is still missing some of the drill/dimple holes it does have a decent clear coat on it already.

If it is a 1st generation playfield I would recommend drilling it first and then having it re-clear coated. The 1st gen IPB playfields don't say "Diamond Plate".

Here is a picture of a 2nd gen IPB FH playfield.

I got one a few months back and I thought it was great. I wouldn't have cleared it over and above what had already been done. Unfortunately my deal on a project Funhouse fell through and I had to sell the playfield, but it was really nice.

It is drilled/dimpled, and says diamond plate on it. :D

Great I'm not gonna bother with any further CC then. It looks super nice as-is, and I'm not a high frequency player so it should be fine. If I try to do it I'd probably just make it look bad or fuck up somehow anyways.

I have no idea if IPB still has more of these. He said something about it being the last one, but I assumed he meant of the stock he brought with him?

I have a first gen in my FH, I did not do anything to it,used it just the way it came.I have probably played my funhouse 500or more times and it looks just like new still.

Understanding that I only have 2 machines so not as easy to "spread the love around" so to speak..

Am I the only one that looks at "500 plays" and goes.... "Man, that's not really that many"? LOL :) I would love to use the bookkeeping on Pinbot to see how many games I've put on it, but my kid fires it up left and right, hits the start button, and then walks off.

The reason I recommend re-clear coating a first generation FH repro playfield is because the playfield is not ready to use out of the box. It needs to be drilled/dimpled. Also you get the chance to add the "Diamond Plate" logo that is missing on the 1st gen playfields.

Playfield swaps are easier if the new playfield is ready to go. It makes doing a side-by-side sway easier.

I would call them and talk to Kim, I think that's her name.

I bought a FH and a MM last year for about $550 each. They had some issues apparently, but none that I really noticed. Then again I'm not an anal retentive person either about this type of thing. I have since sold all of my pf's since I will not have the the games, nor the time to use them any time soon.

FH

called, dang it they are out. wish they would of told me they had them when I called last week. have to go on the waiting list for next year unless someone is siting on one they would sell.

think it would be fun to
spray 3 or 4 millimeters of that DUPONT clear
on it

and see how it plays

not too much as
to not put it together
but

LOL uhhh... no. :D

Hell I think even 1mm would probably make it miserable to put the play field back together.

All reproduction IPB FH playfields are clear coated already. Adding additional clear will not make it play any different.

The advantage of re-clear coating an already clear coated playfield is to make the playfield surface flat, dust free and adding a better type of clear to offer more protection.

Williams/Bally playfields made after 1991 are all factory clear coated (Diamond Plate). The factory clear tends to be thin and do not offer the same protection as an higher end thicker clear coat.

Maybe if you could type properly it would make more sense....

just got back from looking at "view all posts by Burt6666"

playing a game on a surface with 4 or 5 mm of clear could be great fun
this thread has sparked my imagination with trying it on my MM playfield
